POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

McCallie Associates, Inc. is the prime contractor for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Systems Engineering Advanced Services II (SEAS II) contract. McCallie has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer 2 with at least 10 years of space mission or instrument systems engineering experience to support on-going NASA space mission projects.

  • A Systems Engineer 2 is responsible for ensuring that systems requirements are achieved.
  • The Systems Engineer 2 is responsible for interface control during development and maintenance activities and for the integration and test planning necessary to verify that system requirements have been realized. Other duties include: a) Perform engineering for a system or subsystems using methodologies and techniques appropriate to the engineering discipline. Provide expert advice and support during the entire life cycle from the specification and analysis of requirements, through the design of the hardware or software, procurement, fabrication, assembly, to integration and test, and launch and operation of the spacecraft. Identify and solve technical problems during all phases. Develop technical reports and documentation. Support technical meetings and reviews. b) If functioning as a lead engineer, provide technical direction for the definition and development of a system or subsystem and coordinate all appropriate engineering activities. If functioning as a senior subject matter expert, perform engineering analysis, design, development, test or troubleshooting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science or mathematics from an accredited institution is required. 
  • Ten (10) years of spacecraft design and development experience including at least 7 years of experience analyzing system requirements, developing functional performance requirements, and allocating those requirements to the system elements.

Desired Skills

  • Strong background in requirements management, interface requirements, requirements validation, verification, top-level verification planning, integration and test.
  • Experience in end-to-end mission requirements traceability and validation.
  • Experience with NASA policies and procedures regarding program/project management lifecycles and systems engineering.
  • Experience with database tools, requirements management and system architecture tools.
  • Experience with the NASA system requirements tools such as DOORS.
  • Experience with testing methodologies and test planning activities.
  • Experience with NASA Risk Management Guidelines and Processes and Tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) software tools.

Security Requirements

  • Currently hold or ability to obtain a NASA Goddard badge (NACI background investigation) is required.
