WHY BOX NEEDS YOU?

Our Desktop Engineering teams, based in the US and Poland, work closely together to delight our users by bringing the power of Box’s content cloud to where the users get their work done - on their Windows and MacOS devices. We build applications that help users access, collaborate, and execute workflows on their documents from cloud with the familiarity of their local computer and local applications. We are looking for a leader for our core engine engineering team. In this leadership role, you will nurture the team, develop and empower engineers, work together with other teams in Desktop and beyond, and drive projects to successful on-time delivery. Your impact will reach millions of users who use Box desktop applications to get their work done on a daily basis.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 5+ years experience as a software engineering manager, ideally including leading teams with distributed members
  • 5+ years experience in a software engineering or related role
  • Strong empathy for users and customers - a desire to understand their use cases, and solve their pain points
  • Experience driving effective execution and project visibility with agile processes in a dynamic environment
  • People-oriented leader, able to model and cultivate an inclusive and collaborative culture
  • Strong communicator, able to build a compelling vision for their team 
  • Passion for engineering excellence, quality, simplicity and continuous improvement

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead a diverse team of developers from very experienced Staff engineers to Jr. engineers
  • Collaborate effectively with other desktop application teams and other departments, including peer engineering teams, product, design, QA, and user-services located across the globe
  • Define team's technical strategy and roadmap, lead planning and execution, and take ownership of delivery
  • Develop your team members via 1:1s, career planning, coaching discussions, timely career guidance
  • Actively drive software development best practices and quality for Box products
  • Strengthen the team by hiring great engineers
  • Model and uphold our values through building a collaborative, inclusive team with a focus on customer impact and building for leverage

Preferred experience

  • Building and shipping Windows or macOS applications
  • Working with remote team members in different timezones
