Temperature Control Division of Standard Motor Products, has a Senior Buyer position open at our Lewisville, Texas location. 

As a key and highly visible member of our Purchasing Department, you will negotiate and coordinate all activities related to procurement, international and domestic, of selected commodities for aftermarket business segments with intent to purchase through delivery while maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support business needs. The vast majority of supply partners are international.

  • Analyze the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, lead-times, and date commodity is needed.
  • Issue and monitor existing purchase orders for delivery to meet business needs.
  • Extensive MRP, inventory replenishment experience required.
  • MRP Forecast driven ordering, order expedite, defer, cancel experience required.
  • Maintain timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • International freight experience required; responsibilities include tracking of all ocean and air freight from international supply partners.
  • Effectively communicate with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Effectively coordinate with our Product Development Department to select suppliers based on quality, cost, lead-time and service.
  • Participate in negotiations with suppliers.
  • As a Sr. Buyer, expectations are to support other buyers to identify and implement efficiencies, assist with RFQ’s, spreadsheet and report support, cost analysis, etc.
  • Research and implement opportunities to reduce cost of products and/or services.
  • Project management.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for maintaining acceptable inventory levels and inventory turn goals.
  • Coordinate and make necessary arrangements for processing discrepancy items/materials for proper disposition. Issue replacement purchase orders as required on returned items and materials.

REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE: 

To qualify, a Bachelor’s Degree or two or more year’s related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a high-volume international sourcing setting. APICS certification and or extensive APICS training required. The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, excellent interpersonal oral/written communication and problem-solving skills are also essential. Candidate must be proficient in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, CONCATINATE, TRIM, basic IF Statements, Calculations, etc.). MS Excel knowledge is necessary to properly perform various responsibilities. Knowledge of JD Edwards ERP/MRP systems preferred. Candidates will be required to take a MS Excel skills assessment.
