Ford Design – Technical Operations turns design vision into reality with an obsession to detail and the art of the possible. As an integral part of Ford Global Design, we deliver theme feasibility, surface geometry, and production-launch appearance quality. Studio Engineer - Interior Components is an integral part of the Ford Design studio. They define what it takes to deliver the design vision while also guiding and integrating cross functional inputs at the right time into the Design. Curious and creative, with a millimeter precision to surface detail, this role is central to new product creation inside the Ford Design Studio.

What you'll do…

1. Leads Studio property set up, and integrity including content, data pedigree, ride height, manikin drop and overall suitability

2. Leads the co-creation with Engineering & Manufacturing to converge program, attribute, & functional inputs of Interior components into the Class A Design surface by blending them into highly integrated 3D CAD concepts that deliver a feasible styling theme meeting Design intent

3. Lead and coordinate the Design theme feasibility progression and resolution to meet studio release and approval timing requirements

4. Guide initial theme set-up, and development through or in advance of functional, supplier, or attribute inputs

5. Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files to enable Physical and Digital model development and integration of aligned plans into surface.

6. Utilize their strong Design acuity and innovation mindset to define and propose in CAD new and innovative solutions necessary to conceptualize and the aesthetic vision.

7. Lead the optimization and balancing of inputs to the studio, including consideration of 'what-might-be' to support the theme vision

8. Manage design studio product structure and data within, into and out of the studio

You'll have…

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design, transportation design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years' experience concepting surface and engineering proposals in CATIA, Alias, ICEM surf or other relevant software
  • 5+ years of outstanding design, packaging and 3D CATIA/3Dx modeling skills for interior components.

  • Familiarity with vehicle layout of components, production process, latest automotive trends, regulations, & consumer ratings that guide vehicle product advancements & constraints.
  • Hands on experience in narrowing product scope and facilitating decisions on complex product, including leading and presenting to decision making forums.
  • Big picture mindset and passion for engineering of innovative, breakthrough, and class leading products.
  • Ability to visualize new and potential designs in VRED, or equivalent software, to convey design intent and usability of design
  • Demonstrated experience in design studio procedures and progression, and ability to provide a creative and engineering focus to enable creative vehicle-level solutions & alternatives in support of Design.
