The Role & Key Responsibilities:

Due to the continued expansion of Apex Group, one of the Luxembourg-based Finance departments is actively seeking to hire an Accountant to join the team. The Accountant will be based in Cape Town and work together with the Luxembourg Finance team to look after a number of entities within the Group. The Accountant will report to the Head of Finance.

The responsibilities for this role are the following:

  • General Accounting: Accruals, prepayments, fixed assets registers maintenance, bank reconciliation, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Preparation of periodic VAT and Tax returns in multiple jurisdictions and countries.
  • Support with Audit queries and help coordinating the overall Audit process.
  • Actively participate to month-end closing processes within different business models and countries. Each business model involves a certain level of complexity (Reporting standards, currency etc.).
  • Prepare daily KPI’s such as intra-day cash positions, Assets Under Management and regulatory capital requirements.
  • Improve financial status by analyzing results, monitoring variances, identifying trends and recommending actions to management.
  • Reconcile cash transactions and report/investigate any doubtful item.
  • Maintain and improve the internal database by entering, verifying, and backing up data.
  • Increase productivity by participating to the development of automated accounting applications and coordinating information requirements.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Work with the Finance team in Luxembourg to produce the annual business plan and manage the monthly process for updating the forecast.
  • Produce financial/business KPI’s and requisite reports to provide a clear view of the company’s and individual teams’ performances.
  • Constantly improve and enhance skills by participating to courses, classes or trainings and show willingness to learn.

Skills Required:

  • A University degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent
  • Holder of, or working towards a professional accounting qualification: CA, ACCA, CPA etc. (Preferred, but not required).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a Finance department or in a similar role.
  • Fluent in English (Written and spoken); Any other internationally spoken language is a plus (French or German in particular).
  • Proven exposure or interest in the Funds industry and related financial activities
  • Able to meet tight deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel (Formulas, formatting, pivot tables) with the willingness to learn.
  • High professional standards and able to evolve in a young, dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
