Job Description

We’re looking for a well-rounded Senior Software Engineer to be part of our Vikings team in Krakow, Poland.

Our team focuses on growing and maintaining our Help Center’s theming platform, adding new functionality and building new integrations on top of it. Through this platform, we empower our customers to create personalized experiences that range from sharing knowledge, creating communities and solving requests. Because of this, our work has a direct impact on developers and users of a product that serves billions of requests per month.

What you’ll be doing

  • Actively shape and develop our theming platform to support both coding and non-coding customisations.
  • Participate in brainstorming, designing, prototyping, and programming within an agile environment.
  • Spearhead the resolution of complex reliability problems at scale, showcasing comprehensive expertise across the entire technology stack.
  • Champion a deep understanding of the product and cultivate a customer-centric approach within the team.
  • Lead, mentor, and teach team members and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Effectively communicate complex changes, strategies, and technical decisions to stakeholders within the organization with a high level of clarity and consideration.
  • Advocate for team collaboration, actively contributing to the team’s knowledge and growth through pairing, code reviews, tech talks, etc.

What you’ll bring to the role

Required

  • Extensive experience working on backend applications in production environments.
  • Proven understanding of web application development and excellent knowledge of at least 1 server-side scripting language.
  • Experience using observability tools to ensure system reliability at scale.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of all phases of software engineering: design, development, testing, deployment, and operational issues.
  • Open minded and inclusive mentality, both for your colleagues and your work.
  • English proficiency both spoken and written.

Preferred

  • Prior experience owning Ruby applications in a production environment.
  • Experience building developer tools and/or APIs.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes and cloud services on AWS or similar.
  • Experience developing on a themeable platform (e.g. WordPress, Shopify)
  • Contributor or owner of open source projects.

Tech Stack

  • Our application code is primarily written in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, TypeScript and React.
  • We use MySQL, Redis, Memcached and S3 to store our data.
  • We use Kafka, REST APIs and GraphQL to communicate between services.
  • We use Kubernetes and AWS to deploy and scale our applications.

The Poland annualized base salary range for this position is zł198,000.00-zł340,000.00. Please note that while the salary range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rate for this position, the actual compensation offered will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives that will be communicated during the offer stage.
