The Opportunity…

We are seeking a General Activities Therapist 2 at our Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, conducts, implements and monitors general recreational, personal development, structured therapeutic and entertainment activities for youth
  • Serves as a member of interdisciplinary team and analyzes, assesses, evaluates, defines and recommends group and or individual treatment goals and activities.
  • Observes participants during activities.
  • Serves in instructional capacity for youth 
  • Prepares and maintains reports for treatment team regarding individual behavior and progress regarding individual recreational program activities.
  • Prepares and maintains inventory records of equipment tools and materials
  • Prepares weekly activity schedule

Qualifications

Completion of undergraduate core program in recreation area (e.g., physical education); 12 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation.

  • Or completion of associate degree in recreational area; 24 mos. exp. in activity therapy or

recreation.

  • Or 12 mos. exp. as General Activities Therapist 1, 44211.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

(*)Developed after employment. All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must partake in paid, mandatory 4 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at IRJCF, weeks 2 through 4 are held in Orient, Ohio, 10-hour training days, Monday through Thursday. The state of Ohio covers transportation, meals and lodging.
