Job Description Summary: 

The GW Office of Undergraduate Admissions is honored to review applications from thousands of students around the world each year. The goal of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is to create a class of students who will pursue academic excellence, thrive in our dynamic environment, and make lasting contributions to GW and the world.

The Admissions Associate, International Admissions advocates, recruits, and leads other staff to ensure increased enrollment of foreign citizens as undergraduates.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acts as primary contact between Admissions and international applicants, families and other constituencies seeking assistance. Advises hundreds of students about processes for applying to and enrolling at the University.
  • Manages and oversees the I-20 process, along with additional documents including: financial forms, and follow up-letters to international students required for international applicants. Answers questions by phone and email about the documents above, and questions about merit aid.
  • Participates and assists with planning of events.
  • Serves as liaison between Admissions and ISO and Study Abroad and coordinates agreements with many external organizations and agents whose core business is fostering international enrollments in the US.
  • In collaboration with staff leaders, creates and regularly updates marketing tools (publications, websites, letters, and emails) focused on international students and international education.
  • Through membership in organizations, participation at conferences, and training sessions, evaluates best practices in international recruiting and enrollment.
  • Expedites international applicant processing personally as needed.
  • Supports counseling staff to evaluate high school records including the evaluation of language of instruction and calculation of equivalent US grade-point average from British, French, Russian and other grading systems and scales.
  • Ensures accurate processing of applications through protocols and training.
  • In collaboration with other campus offices, processes paperwork associated with hiring International Students.
  • Develops and sustains prospect, applicant, and high school databases.
  • Manages a recruitment territory and participates in application reading.
  • Limited travel related to recruitment may be required.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Possession of a Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in office support, along with the ability to demonstrate advanced administrative skills desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web applications desired.
  • Strong candidates will possess a familiarity with SEVIS and an understanding of F1 and J1 Visa regulations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and convey a professional and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ready to serve as part of a team with the ability to establish priorities and work independently.
  • Experience in superior customer service is desired.
  • Cultural sensitivity is strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experiences welcome but not required.
  • Knowledge of international educational credentials is preferred.
  • Experience working in or in collaboration with undergraduate admissions is preferred.
