Job Summary:

Join our elite Mission Management and Command & Control team as a Ground Systems Principal Java Software Engineer and be at the forefront of aerospace technology. In the role of Principal Java Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team to the strategic planning and operational control of satellite missions. This encompasses coordinating mission objectives, resource allocation, and data management to ensure mission success. Additionally, your coding will support the continuous monitoring and commanding of the satellite, handling real-time telemetry data, executing necessary operational commands, and swiftly resolving any anomalies to maintain optimal satellite functionality and seamless communication integration. Your expertise in Java software engineering will ensure the satellite's effective performance in alignment with its intended goals and the broader communication network. Due to the level of the security clearance required, this will be an onsite position in our Aurora, CO campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop sophisticated backend server-side Java applications in a Linux environment, leveraging Agile methodologies for state-of-the-art satellite ground systems, including space network ground segments, and global user interfaces.
  • Play a pivotal role in the operational success of new advanced satellites focused on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance for diverse clients.
  • Engage in the entire software lifecycle, from conceptualization and design to development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Utilize and enhance your skills in Multi-Tiered Architectures, Amazon Web Services, Geospatial Visualization Tools, Digital Engineering, and Automation Frameworks to support advanced spacecraft missions.
  • Collaborate in a modern DevSecOps environment, employing Agile methodologies to deliver high-quality software solutions efficiently.
  • Work onsite in a SCIF. Flexible work schedules available to include 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10 in Aurora, CO.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Eight (8) years of experience in object-oriented software engineering with a focus on Java and backend development in a Linux operating systems environment.
  • An active and transferable Top Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance prior to the start date.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a SCI U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Software Engineering processes and best practices.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented analysis and design
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience working with applications in the AWS Cloud
  • Experience with microservices using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous Development
  • Experience with one or more areas of satellite ground system software such as mission management, planning and scheduling, command and telemetry, satellite operations, or flight dynamics models.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
