User Experience Researcher

Pathstream is seeking a User Experience Researcher to conduct research initiatives for an innovative platform that helps employees grow in their careers. THE ROLE

This role sits on the Product Design and Research team which is part of our larger Engineering, Product and Design division. You will report to the Director of Product Design and Research. 

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Identify key research questions and objectives in partnership with design and product teams: Understand business objectives and identify the underlying user needs and behaviors that should be addressed. Quickly and independently design research studies to help drive decision-making for product strategy and design solutions, ensuring that solutions not only meet business goals but also enhance user satisfaction and engagement.
  • Develop research plans that utilize a mixed methods approach: Know when and how to apply different research methods, both qualitative and quantitative, across the product life cycle. Synthesize data from diverse sources to present a coherent understanding of user needs that inform strategic decisions.
  • Conduct, synthesize, and communicate research findings to drive understanding and user empathy across the company: Recruit and screen participants, facilitate interviews, and run unmoderated user tests independently. Synthesize data from diverse sources to present a coherent understanding of user needs that inform strategic decisions. Articulate and socialize insights at a regular cadence. Maintain an insights repository that serves as a knowledge base for the design and product teams to leverage.
  • Develop user journey and archetype frameworks as we continue to deeply understand our users: Over time, be able to synthesize across the journeys of our different users, how they approach career growth, and identify future opportunities to optimize for their experiences.

ABOUT YOU

  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience as an applied researcher: You have at least 3 years of experience as a UX Researcher, preferably with experience in leading research initiatives for both enterprise and consumer products. Track record of independently tailoring and carrying out high-quality, effective, appropriate research methodologies within time and resource constraints. Effectively led research projects within a specific product area, driving understanding of user segments and their needs, behaviors, and motivations.
  • Experience influencing product strategy and vision using research and data: You can share case studies of research that delivered actionable insights to influence product strategy and design decisions, which in turn achieved business goals. You know how business connects to design, and how to align research strategies with business goals and objectives.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills: Demonstrable experience partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure a cohesive user experience across all product touchpoints. Have methods for socializing findings, creating compelling presentations, and confidently conveying research insights through storytelling to technical and non-technical audiences that are shared at a regular cadence. Present compelling, evidence-based insights to stakeholders across the org, linking user needs and behaviors to business outcomes and product opportunities.
  • Innately curious and an active learner: Actively seeks to expand and share knowledge and experience in UX research to best support the evolving needs of the team. Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in research methodology selection, and the creation of models and frameworks to explain user behavior. Generates work and identifies future opportunities.
  • Excellent project management skills: Balances rigorous attention to details with swift execution. Contributes to the development and refinement of the company’s user research methodologies and tools. Champions the importance of user research and a user-centered design process across the organization. Creates and maintains templates and processes to support research for others at the company. May coach peers on fundamental research practices.
