Eaton’s Aerospace Division is currently seeking a Quality Engineer-Metallurgist to join our team. This position is based at our Rumford, Rhode Island facility.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $65250.0 - $95700.0 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you’ll do:

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for providing technical support to manufacturing and for assisting in material evaluation for both Eaton Corporation and outside customers. Will prepare and analyze metallographic and hardness samples through use of standard evaluation techniques. This position will also be responsible for lab standards, equipment, and documentation

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee metallography lab upkeep - Maintain and troubleshoot equipment in metallography lab, keep lab documentation up to date and in order.
  • Write and modify lab test procedures, train personnel in use/implementation. 
  • Become technical lead for all metallography audits/questions.
  • Prepare and analyze samples such as welds, surface features, microstructure, hardness, etc.
  • Providing technical support in Manufacturing (i.e., Nitriding and Metal Heat Treatment)
  • Assisting, conducting, and preparing reports for Failure Analyses.
  • Communicating both orally and in writing with other departments and cognizant engineers in a precise, logical, informative, and tactful manner.
  • Consult with cognizant engineers to determine if additional testing is warranted if test results are questionable.
  • Review and application of Industry Specifications.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a laboratory environment with various metallurgical, chemical, mechanical or similar testing equipment
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates who currently reside within the immediate geographical area of 50 miles of Rumford, RI will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science
  • Laboratory environment with various metallurgical, chemical and mechanical testing equipment.
  • 5+ years’ experience with metallography/hardness testing procedures and laboratory test equipment
  • Experience in development, verification, and validation of metallurgical processes 
  • Working knowledge in aerospace quality processes
  • Working knowledge of drawings and specifications interpretation
  • knowledge of Special Processing, Controls and Quality Systems (i.e., ISO, Nadcap, AS and FAA)
