In this diverse role of high impact within our matrix organization, we are hiring an energized, inclusive, and forward-thinking Legal Counsel EMEA to join our team for our Solutions Group (rbis.averydennison.com / rfid.averydennison.com / identificationsolutions.averydennison.com) in our European HQ (Oegstgeest, The Netherlands) with a direct reporting line to our Senior Legal Counsel, EMENA

Your Mission:

  • As an in-house lawyer and part of our legal team (three other lawyers, three paralegals, and one legal assistant), you will provide and manage a full range of legal services supporting all of the company’s Solutions Group business division and operations throughout Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including commercial transactions and contracts, litigation and dispute resolution, product and regulatory compliance, labor/employment, antitrust/competition, import/export, values and ethics investigations, and legal matters associated with business transactions and restructurings. 
  • With your practical business and solution-oriented approach, you will handle a wide range of legal matters, including day-to-day and complex legal projects, as well as work highly collaboratively across functions with strong values and ethics, especially - though not the main focus of the role - when it comes to digital / technology law, i.e. supporting software and hardware solutions including software licensing, SaaS and other cloud transactions, technology, hardware purchases, and professional services. 
  • Being a key member of the EMEA regional legal team, you will support commercial transactions, including advising on and drafting agreements and engaging in critical negotiations with counter-parties, distribution, digital, sales, procurement, agency, (software) license, confidentiality, and other commercial agreements.
  • You will proactively manage litigation, including advice and strategy regarding avoiding or preparing for litigation, alternative dispute resolution, successful litigation outcomes, and managing outside litigation counsel and costs.
  • With your experience in understanding, assessing, and planning legal strategies relating to compliance and governmental regulations (e.g. antitrust/competition, food, drug, marketing, environmental), you will oversee significant labor and employment law matters, including important employment termination as well as union and works council issues, lead / support important investigations concerning values/ethics or governmental matters, and communicate complex legal and policy matters in an understandable, practical manner for non-lawyers and to connect legal principles with practical actions.

Qualifications

What we expect from you! - Your Expertise:

  • Post Graduate Degree in law / EU law background, as well as being a Member of a Bar association or having passed the Bar exam in a European country
  • Previous work experience of 7+ years in a top-tier law firm, or within a multinational company with expertise in commercial contract and corporate law, product compliance and quality-related matters, antitrust/competition laws, and ideally, M&A and labor law
  • Affinity with Digital Law and - preferably - experience with drafting, negotiating, and closing software licensing agreements, SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS agreements, and other commercial transactions involving software
  • Strong understanding of litigation and dispute resolution, including experience with various court systems, arbitration, mediation, and dispute negotiations
  • Experience with assessing, advising, and managing regulatory matters to achieve business objectives
  • Solid project management skills and a good understanding of Enterprise Lean Six Sigma
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English (any other European language, such as German, French, or Dutch is an advantage)
