The Role: Principal Software Engineer

We are currently seeking skilled and motivated Software Engineers for our Decoder SI team to play a key role in the integration of set-top box software solutions. Join our team at Irdeto and contribute to our mission of providing top-quality entertainment solutions to customers across Africa. As an Engineer in the Decoder SI team, you'll play a crucial role in integrating cutting-edge set-top box software solutions and ensuring seamless customer experiences.

Your mission at Irdeto:

  • As a Software Engineer in the Decoder UI team, you will be responsible for the system and sub-system software development and integration of enterprise-wide set-top box software solutions.
  • Reviewing and assessing the UI team's deliverables to maintain high-quality standards and compliance with company processes.
  • Coordinating with external customers such as Set Top Box Manufacturers, Middleware software providers, and Chipset providers to ensure successful integration of components.
  • Collaborating with internal customers, including Senior Manager Decoder Development and Technology Teams, to align integration strategies and dependencies for releases.
  • Ensuring adherence to development processes, policies, and security & software compliance requirements.
  • Building and maintaining tools to automate and improve the SI line function.
  • Creation, enhancement & enforcement of SI processes & policies with team members and 3rd party software component vendors

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic and/or Computer Engineering or a similar field.
  • Multiple years of experience in Consumer Electronics and Embedded Software Stack Integration and technologies (preferably in set-top box), working through the Design, Development, Testing, Release cycle and Software delivery.
  • Knowledge of Industry-wide best practices of Processes, Integration Techniques and Tools for Embedded Development
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies like Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid, and DevOps.

Technical expertise, required experience:

  • Core Java programming languages.
  • Web technologies (e.g. WS, RESTful, etc.) and scripting languages (e.g. HTML, Javascript, CSS etc.)
  • Embedded hardware systems, real-time & Linux operating systems.
  • Database Design and Management tools (SQLite, etc.).
  • DVB (e.g. DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-T, DVB-H, DVB-IP), ISDB, MPEG, H.264, H.265, UHD, HDR, File compression techniques and interactive TV knowledge.
