Science Writer
Essential Duties
1. Writing, editing, and preparation of high-quality articles for submission to scientific journals. 2. Writing abstracts, scientific exhibits, posters, and presentations on topics that include but are not limited to: clinical/research informatics, clinical trial management systems, core resources, and research subject recruitment initiatives. 3. Writing for grant applications and scientific or administrative reports. 4. Translating scientific concepts to a broader audience in various formats including white papers, web content, articles, and press releases. 5. Working with investigators to understand their research, assess data, and develop expertise in diverse areas as needed. 6. Conducting comprehensive literature searches to enhance background understanding.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelors’ degree and 4 years of experience in scientific writing and editing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:
The Science Writer will write and edit journal manuscripts, presentations, white papers, reports, articles, and other materials about clinical and laboratory research conducted at the Yale School of Medicine. This individual will develop expertise in all aspects of Yale’s research enterprise and collaborate with faculty to develop high-quality written materials on a variety of topics related to research.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in a health, scientific, or technical field, with two years of work experience involving scientific writing. Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Graduate degree in a health-related field. Experience with PubMed and other citation databases. Experience with reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, Reference Manager, RefWorks, etc.)

Ability to perform literature reviews related to Department of Defense projects on the effects of blast overpressure on the brain and brain function
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Ability to draft and edit publishable manuscripts and scientific reports and ensure they are accessible to non-technical readers at various levels.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to perform and document internet searches related to specific topics of interest and aggregate information produced by collaborators to produce both lay and scientific reports.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Collaborate with other team members to revise and edit manuscripts and reports Coordinate submission of manuscripts for publication and reports for distribution.
