Who are you?

We are seeking an experienced Lead UX Designer to join our dynamic team. As a member of the Product Design team, you will help shape our global health and wellbeing product by helping to set the design strategy and major themes for our user experiences. Our software platform spans from the web to wearables, from iOS to Android and other connected devices and reaches more than 14 million impacted members across 20 languages and 190 countries.

You will enjoy a wide mix of work ranging from consumer-style health app design to complex back-end admin interfaces. You will create not only end-state UI but also strategic artifacts including task flows, wireframes, and concepts. You will join an innovative product experience team that includes product managers, UX designers and researchers, content strategists, and other specialists in a highly collaborative agile environment.

In this role you will wear many hats, but your knowledge will be essential in the following: 

  • Partner with executives and/or product leadership in defining the impact and effort behind strategic initiatives; defines higher-level assumptions, hypotheses, and key questions to guide involvement from UX team members.
  • Lead discussions with executives and/or product leadership to define the overarching product strategy and communicate with executive stakeholders and supporting team members on the timelines and scope of efforts based on complexity of a
  • project.
  • Lead the identification of opportunities and limitations of the technology for the overall platform and leads efforts with product leadership to drive successful implementation based on strategic goals/initiatives.
  • Present work to executives and product leaders to drive UX influence and advocate on behalf of the design thinking process.
  • Lead the creation of high-level strategic artifacts such as user flows, journey maps, complex prototypes, and other artifacts to communicate user needs and goals, identify areas of improvement, build buy-in, and focus teams.
  • Lead the growth and adoption of design system and accessibility standards to ensure all product experiences meet our product design principles (dynamic, personalized, inclusive).
  • Leads the implementation and adherence to established usability principles, standards, and guidelines to predict likely problems in user interfaces before testing.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Partners with UX leadership team to orchestrate design operations, including establishing processes, delivering team trainings, and overseeing capacity planning.
  • Lead mentorship of UX design team on how to expand their skillsets aligned to industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to UX.
  • Lead the implementation and team adherence to principles of visual design (hierarchy, progressive disclosure, typography, grid, color systems, proximity) and HCI best practices; and contribute to the UX team's evolving toolkit of methods and tools at all stages in the design thinking process.

Qualifications

What you bring to the Virgin Pulse team

In order to represent the best of what we have to offer you come to us with a multitude of positive attributes including:

  • 8+ years of experience in roles of expanding leadership in Product Design and/or product-oriented UX roles
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in design, HCI, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Previous domain experience in Healthcare, Public Health, Wellbeing, and/or Fitness preferred
  • Ability to evaluate current skillset, industry trends, and best practices to define future areas of learning and growth

  • Expertise in user-centered design methodology, design thinking and workshop facilitation – and you’re able to provide mentorship to others
  • Expertise in Figma, Jira, and other operational tools and systems
  • Expertise in visual and interaction design
  • Excellent written and spoken communicator able to drive UX influence and ensure cohesive brand and consistent user experience of product capabilities across all platforms, touchpoints, and modalities
  • A highly organized, natural collaborator who advocates and trains others on the design thinking process, and effectively manages timelines across projects in different stages of development
  • A deep appreciation and talent for simple solutions to complex problems
  • Adept and nimble at learning new domains, technologies, and processes
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, agile environment, while also leading process improvement efforts
  • Experience designing for admin tools (preferred)
  • Experience designing for data-oriented products and data visualization (preferred)
  • Experience with game design and/or loyalty programs (preferred)

In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges up to $160,000 annually. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for 10% target bonus/variable compensation as well as health, dental, vision, mental health and other benefits.
