About the Job

We’re hiring a Vice President, Finance for our rapidly-growing bioengineering company as we move closer to the next phase of our evolution. Reporting to the CEO, this person will work on all facets of financial management, including cash management, financial planning & analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning. As the VP, Finance you’ll also manage our Tech Team as they continue to build out infrastructure and provide technical support to critical business objectives and our staff. 

In this role, you’ll work closely with the CEO and the executive leadership team to build the foundation of the finance and accounting function at Ossium. This is an excellent role for a hands-on director-level leader who is looking to step up into a VP role and build out full finance operations at a biotech with incredible global potential.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years progressive experience as a financial leader, demonstrating increasing responsibility 
  • Advanced ability to develop financial strategy, including projections, modeling, and profitability analysis across business lines
  • Outstanding project management skills; track record of guiding internal and external stakeholders through complex financial transactions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to connect clearly and concisely with executives
  • Experience working with external auditors, compliance, and regulatory oversight
  • Exceptional Excel skills
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing internal IT or tech function to ensure company systems, devices, and infrastructure are robust and compliant
  • Capability to operate with a high level of organization and excellent time management in a fast-paced startup environment
  • This position is based in our San Francisco office; we maintain a hybrid schedule of Monday - Thursday in the office, with Friday as a remote work day

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPO or public company experience
  • Startup/VC-backed private company experience
  • Corporate governance experience
  • MBA, CFA, or CPA

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving and performing financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, company audits, compliance and controls, treasury, banking relationships, accounting operations and disclosures
  • Preparing monthly budgets for Ossium and its departments; reviewing expenses; making recommendations to minimize costs and increase ROI
  • Managing state and federal grants, including developing budgets and all financial reporting
  • Ensure financial audit and tax compliance
  • Ensuring all required financial and business reporting is submitted to local, state, and federal agencies
  • Controlling and evaluating the organization’s corporate finance strategy and capital structure to use equity and leverage effectively to fund growth objectives
  • Oversee tech team daily operations, including monitoring help request response timelines, supervising web updates, and providing guidance for initiative identification and planning
  • Ensuring company tech infrastructure projects are accurately scoped and completed in a timely manner
  • Working closely with the CEO to lay the foundation for a successful transition to a public company
  • Working closely with General Counsel to strengthen the company’s position against litigation risks and ensuring legal and tax compliance with existing agreements as the company grows

In your first six months some projects you’ll work on include:

  • Supporting Ossium’s first financial audit
  • Identifying, planning, and implementing process changes based on audit findings
  • Overseeing several external stakeholder tech projects

This position has a salary range of $215,000 to $295,000 annually. Ossium Health takes a market-based approach to pay. The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. This range may be modified in the future.
