The Database Administrator (Mid-level) will be responsible for day-to-day management and administration of specific database technologies for key systems within Crate&Barrel. They are responsible for first-level support and triage, managing tools and processes to ensure overall reliability, availability, recoverability, and security. They will partner with the DBA team leadership, functional owners of business systems, Technology infrastructure and development teams, managed service providers and company governance. 

This is a Remote role.

Responsibilities

A day in the life as a Database Administrator (Mid-level)...

  • Managing daily maintenance jobs across all supported databases, taking
  • corrective action as needed
  • Reviewing and troubleshooting escalated incidents
  • Working independently on tasks that are collaboratively created and assigned
  • Executing database patching process through effective engagement with
  • functional owners and managed service providers
  • Supporting and configuring disaster recovery and high availability strategies
  • Partnering with governance and compliance on key deliverables and actions,
  • including customary audits and other tasks as needed
  • Managing team monitoring and alerting tools, adjusting and standardizing
  • thresholds appropriately
  • Communicating with appropriate teams to ensure that proper database best
  • practices are followed
  • Identifying repeatable tasks and proposing opportunities for automation and
  • improvement
  • Evaluating and reviewing industry trends that will allow the company to grow and
  • scale quickly, with an eye toward innovation and automation
  • Providing reporting to team leadership and functional owners on system
  • performance and optimization opportunities

  • Ability to provide insight and new ideas to projects
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to understand business requirements
  • Proficiency in SQL Server database concepts and facilities 
  • Experience with Oracle, DB2, Open Source database platforms a plus
  • Knowledge of IBM i (iSeries, as/400) database concepts a plus 
  • Familiarity with public cloud database infrastructure and architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus
  • Familiarity with key SDLC disciplines

We’d love to hear from you if you have… 

  • Practical experience with database fundamentals, such as indexing strategies and query execution plans
  • Experience working with 3rd party providers and off-shore teams to deliver DBA capabilities 
  • Practical experience with database patching process and solutions
  • College degree in the field of computer science and/or 3-5 years’ equivalent work experience
