For decades, Boeing has had deep industrial and governmental relationships across North Asia. In recent years, Boeing has begun to build its direct presence in the region as it strives to capture the opportunities and harness the unique capabilities the region has to offer. In Japan, we established BJKK as an entity to bid directly for military sustainment work, and we have expanded our research presence, particularly in green technologies. In Korea, we have grown the Boeing Korea Engineering and Technology Center, as we explore defense platform co-development opportunities with the government customer. While these are opportunities in the near term, we are convinced that we have not fully defined, much less addressed, all of the ways these countries can contribute to Boeing’s future competitiveness.

To help us execute define our long term visions for Korea and Japan, and to develop and maintain plans to achieve our near term and longer term objectives, we are seeking a Strategy and Operations specialist who will report to the Boeing presidents in those countries with the following responsibilities. This position is based in Tokyo, Japan.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Country Vision: Working with the Country Presidents and Boeing Global’s Director of Globalization Planning, articulate an aspirational vision for Boeing’s operations in Japan and Korea. This must be based upon a deep understanding of Japan’s and Korea’s capabilities, needs and aspirations, and how these add unique value to Boeing’s business units. 
  • Country Plan: Working with the Country President, Boeing Global’s Director of Globalization Planning, and business unit and functional representatives, develop and maintain plans for Japan and Korea that identify key near term objectives, and actions required to achieve those objectives. 
  • Market Development: Work with business units and Boeing Global’s Director of Globalization Initiatives to identify and create government or industry partnerships which expand Boeing’s presence in Japan and Korea, implement the Country Vision or support other business unit objectives.
  • Government Funding: Collaborate with national/local government teams, and strategic partners to unearth and capture government funding opportunities aligned with Boeing’s Country Vision and Plan.
  • Business Support: Working with the Country Presidents, support risk management and audit management processes, and other duties as assigned.
  • Regional Support: While Japan and Korea are the primary focus for this position, the position is also responsible for supporting country Vision, Plans and market development activities as assigned by the Globalization and Market Development team.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Have a minimum of 5 years proven experience in relevant areas, e.g.
  • Experience in business and program development with Japanese national or local government, or a similar role in industry
  • Significant experience in a position involving strategic planning, market development and/or government relations, preferably in a multinational company
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication in Japanese and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, cross-functional environment
  • Deep understanding of Japan's business environment, culture, and regulatory landscape.
  • Strong project planning, management and execution skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Familiarity with the Japanese aerospace industry and government policies related to the sector would be highly beneficial.
  • Confident public speaker

This requisition is for a locally hired position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Japan.

Travel up to 20% will be required. Travel eligibility within Japan, to other Asian countries (such as South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, China, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India etc.) and to the USA is needed.

Typical Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Finance, Management Engineering or equivalent degree is required. A Master's degree is a plus.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
