Job Description

Role Summary / Purpose:

The Principal Architect will play a pivotal role to realize and integrate platform pillars for growing the GE HealthCare’s acute care digital ecosystem. This cohesive and federated ecosystem of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) sensors, devices, data products, and applications will enable a next-generation of real-time health systems (RTHS) that are data-driven, patient-centric, smart, collaborative, continuously learning, and improving.

As Principal Architect, you'll translate business and tech strategy into an actionable roadmap, leading the implementation of enterprise and data mesh architecture. Spearheading the Cloud Center of Excellence and guiding team topology evolution, you'll proactively support all architecture activities, from developing platform products to managing cloud applications and infrastructure. Bridging the gap between strategy and execution, you'll champion thin slice initiatives, help build top-notch teams, and ensure everything aligns with the architecture blueprint and governance policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Connect Strategy to Execution: Facilitate business and architectural alignment, connecting strategy to execution, through a collaborative, supportive and consultative manner, driving the organization’s digital business strategies and balancing innovation and growth.
  • Lead technical risk retirement initiatives and ensure horizontal platform programs are in alignment with architectural vision. Make sure thinnest viable platform increments are always ready for stream aligned teams to integrate. 
  • Lead a collaborative community of architects and work with a strategic committee to guide the digital transformation and resolve any conflicts between delivery and enterprise business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Explain and promote data mesh, platform elements and the significance of the enterprise architecture to business stakeholders and data domain teams.
  • Coach and mentor other architects: Share expertise and guide junior architects, preparing them for future leadership roles and instill architectural thinking with product owners/managers and business stakeholders.
  • Facilitate data domain onboarding: Guide data domains through the process of setting up data products and integrating into the mesh.
  • Lead the design and implementation of well architected, secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions aligned with industry best practices and healthcare standards (HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR)
  • Spearhead Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) in integrating AWS Well-Architected Framework and Data Mesh principles by facilitating architectural reviews, guiding strategy, fostering cultural change, and building expertise for secure, scalable, and decentralized cloud solutions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: Overall 20+ Years of experience with at least 10+ years of experience in cloud architecture and design and at least five years previous experience as an enterprise and/or cloud solutions architect.
  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (or higher). Additional AWS certifications (e.g., Security, DevOps) a plus.
  • Technical and Domain Expertise:
  • Deep understanding of healthcare IT regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR) and familiarity with common healthcare applications, medical devices, EMR and interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM).
  • Expert understanding of AWS services and their application in healthcare environments.
  • Experience with designing and deploying secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions for healthcare workloads.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Expert level understanding of data strategies & data architectures (e.g., Data Mesh and Data Fabric), modern software engineering best practices and the capabilities of cloud-based platforms (specifically AWS).
  • Expert hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Apache Spark, Python, SQL, Data Warehouses (Redshift, etc.), data modeling, and data engineering practices.

Leadership Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Effective and inclusive facilitator with exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation that can influence stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with a passion for improving patient care and clinical research.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including experience leveraging data to inform decision making and assist in solving engineering problems.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and product management tools.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of clinical data management, EHR systems, and data interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing data products in the healthcare or life sciences industry.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze market trends, user needs, and business requirements to drive product innovation.
  • Experience with design thinking principles and customer experience design.
  • A high degree of empathy, highly curious and able to deal with uncertainty.
  • Databricks Certifications or AWS Certified Data Architect.
  • Knowledge of relevant AI/ML algorithms and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLFlow, LLMs, RAG, etc.).
