WHAT YOU’LL DO
- The Assistant I Microbiology reports directly to the Lab Supervisor/FLL and must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Adequately displays the knowledge and ability to carry out the approved tests to comply with the department objective
- Apply high quality scientific techniques in the microbiological analysis of raw ingredients, in-process production samples, finished product testing, and environmental monitoring, to ensure that all products manufactured are fit for use.
- Be able to work with fellow technicians, with a high degree of motivation, attention to important details with clear communication to all team members. This is important due to the high degree of responsibility and working within a small group where each person is heavily relied-upon.
- Apply high quality scientific techniques in the microbiological analysis of raw ingredients, in-process production samples, finished product testing, and environmental monitoring, to ensure that all products manufactured are fit for use.
- Prioritize tasks to efficiently be completed with accuracy
- Responsible for complying with applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), FDA, USDA, OSHA and Abbott regulations, policies, procedures or guidelines.
- Conduct product testing per procedures.
- Perform environmental testing for micro presence in the production environment.
- Conduct raw ingredient testing.
- Complete appropriate documentation, audit and release of commodities or products.
- Complete housekeeping responsibilities including autoclave, waste disposal, general laboratory sanitation, etc..
- Ability to prepare media for test procedures.
- Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott’s EHS Program.
PAY & SHIFT
This position is for 2nd shift which is from 3:30pm until 12:00am. The start rate is $26/hr + 5% shift premium.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED plus 1 year of appropriate college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus) AND 2 years of laboratory experience OR 4 years’ experience in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- OR Associates Degree in a Science-related field with at least 1 year of appropriate college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus) AND 1 year of related laboratory experience OR 2 years’ experience in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to prepare simple reports
- Ability to read and record gauge and display readings
- Knowledge of mathematics and basic statistical comprehension
- Ability to recognize and report method procedure problems and out-of-specification conditions, and report to supervision
- Ability to identify issues with test methods
- Ability to recognize potential threats to product quality
- Strong teamwork and ability to work with plant personnel in other departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree Science related with at least 1 year of appropriate college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus).

The base pay for this position is
