The Opportunity
This position of Sr. Manager, Cardiometabolic (CMI) Simulation and Modeling is within our business unit located at Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Informatics in Charlottesville, Virginia. In this position, the person hired is responsible for leading a cross functional core team on simulation services, modeling science, new product development and sustaining engineering projects across the ARDx Informatics site. This person is also responsible for development & implementation of major initiatives and processes of product development, as well as managing and coaching simulation and software engineers in the R&D organization.
What You’ll Work On
Responsible for streamlining and executing the Simulation Services Processes for the CMI business unit
Responsible for concept and design of New Product Development Processes employing the Simulation and modeling software for the business unit.
Leads cross functional core team, from Concept through Launch while ensuring proper execution of Design Controls.
Manages multiple large projects through closure including application of the product to other Abbott business units and Global R&D to manufacturing and from Global Marketing to post launch.
Serves as the people manager in the R&D organization and is accountable for all the new product development projects of the Cardiometabolic business unit.
Works closely with various disciplines within R&D and Marketing, Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and establishes project plans and objectives. Develops cost analysis, creates and manages the integration of project schedules, project budget. Tracks progress and communicates proactively the impact of changes (e.g., scope, cross functional resources, timelines, costs, etc.) to key stakeholders.
With the enterprise organizations, resolves resource allocation issues, conflicts, and priorities to ensure the project is staffed appropriately, completed on time, and within budget constraints.
Supports the BU’s strategic planning and prioritization process by coordinating and providing specific project information (e.g., project descriptions, effort assessment, labor and cost requirements, etc.). Support the budget planning process for both existing and candidate projects. Organizes appropriate meetings and collaboration needed to lead resource allocation and planning process.
Deliver presentations to leadership meetings as requested, Program Reviews, and publishes the BU’s monthly project dashboards, and messaging.
Required Qualifications
Four-year degree in technical or scientific discipline (Post graduate degree preferred)
Eight plus years industry experience, at least three in a managerial or supervisory role.
Experience with complex systems development, architecture, software or system integration.
Understands engineering standards, FDA regulation, performance confirmation methods and development practices within Abbott, or in a comparable environment outside of Abbott (i.e. DOD, Aerospace, etc.).
Must have project management experience including managing multiple projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in MS-Office, Visio, Work Breakdown tools and software
Experience with leading product development system projects having multiple components such as software, hardware, assay, human factors
Experience in the practical implementation of regulatory requirements for medical device development such as FDA’s Design Controls, ISO’s Risk Management and Medical Device standards, ISO Software Development standards, CLIA
Experience in leading multi-cultural, international and cross functional core teams and extended teams highly desired
People management experience highly desired
PMP Certification strongly preferred.
