The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity on a Proprietary Program for an Engineering Manager (Level K) in Hazelwood, MO. The manager will be required to oversee execution of design and development of Mechanical Systems Design with focus on Environmental Control Systems, Thermodynamics and Fuel Systems. This position resides within the Phantom Works organization and falls within the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business under Air Dominance. The position requires oversight of detail design and integration among various disciplines within The Boeing Company along with execution of supplier design, development and qualification effort. The selected person will be a strong leader who is passionate about technical execution, continuous improvement, and people development. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees performing end to end product design engineering and technical activities in the areas of Mechanical & Structural Design with focus on Environmental Control Systems, Thermodynamics and Fuel Systems.
  • Develops project or operational plans aligned with program objectives. Implements plans to ensure business, technical and Customer requirements are achieved. Assigns authority and responsibilities to employees to execute end to end product design and development. Reviews plans' execution, makes appropriate adjustments and resolves issues. Monitors appropriate metrics to ensure performance to plan.
  • Forecasts resource needs and makes hiring decisions. Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities. Ensures employees are working effectively with all development teams. Provides on-going developmental feedback. Enforces company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
  • Partner and engage with internal and external stakeholders, supplier management team, maintain relationships with internal customers, peers and partners to develop strategies, goals, and objectives that are consistent with the organization's strategy.
  • Provide periodic updates to senior management in the form of progress reports, project summaries, and other related documents.
  • Foster an innovative work environment leading to identification of opportunities for improvements in product, process, quality and productivity.
  • Support Systems Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 14+ years of related work experience or Master of Science in Engineering and 12+ years of related work experience.
  • 10+ years of Mechanical & Structural Design – understanding of Mechanical, Structural and Thermal Design characteristics associated with development of systems such as Environmental Control and Fuel.
  • Candidate should have exhibited engineering expertise across product development phases such as design, manufacturing and build and fleet support.
  • 10+ years of strong leadership and project management skills.
  • 5+ years of oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
  • 5+ years of strong aptitude for team building and people development to manage, develop and motivate employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Past hands-on experience or demonstration associated with CAD, thermo-analysis, fuel system analysis or simulation.
  • Experience leading teams and having the ability to mentor and guide employees to accomplish project and program goals and objectives.

Summary pay range: $130,050 - $175,950
