The Location: London UK

The Role: S&P Global Commodity Insights is looking for an Analyst to join our Investing in Energy research team. The analyst will collaborate with colleagues within the Investing in Energy team, and also cooperate with analysts outside this team, to produce analysis on the minerals and mining sector with a focus on the energy transition supply chain.

Are you a detail-oriented researcher and analyst with quantitative skills as well as excellent writing skills? Are you an enthusiastic and collaborative team member? Can you assess the broader macroeconomic and geopolitical implications of evolving energy transition supply chains in relation to the mining and minerals sector?

The Team: The Investing in Energy team works within our Commodity Insights division to provide financial and capital markets clients—investment banks, fund managers, private equity, commodity traders—with cross-sector energy market advisory and decision support through subscription-based advisory and data.

The Impact: This position within the Investing in Energy team will play a key role within Commodity Insights in deepening and broadening our coverage of the minerals and mining sector as part of the energy transition value chain. The role will involve integrating and adding to the research already done across Commodity Insights in this area, with a focus on the intereaction of this sector with financial markets as well with the broader macroeconomic and geopolitical environment.

What’s in it for you: A successful candidate will be keen to apply strong analytical, writing, and communication skills to understand and explain key market trends across relevant minerals and metals. This candidate will produce provocative, data-supported reports that offer insights to clients in support of their investment strategies in energy commodities, companies, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze market data and information and on that basis write forward-looking research reports that assess market trends and implications in the mining and minerals segment.
  • Support client requests by providing quick and comprehensive answers and data to client questions.
  • Under the guidance of your manager and more senior colleagues, work to produce research deliverables as well as client presentations in a collaborative way. .
  • Challenge ideas and influence others across multiple teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least 2-4 years of experience as an minerals or metals analyst.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, is preferred.
  • Extremely strong written and oral presentation skills in English. Excellent writing abilities are required for this position.
  • Specific expertise and experience in mining and minerals is a requirement; knowledge of the broader energy sector would also be helpful.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and a capacity for quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Resourceful and not afraid to ask questions
