The Location: London, UK 

The Team: The Atlantic LNG team is responsible for collecting and publishing relevant market information, as well as assessing markets in the Atlantic Basin. The Atlantic Basin LNG trade is a major part of the global trade of this rapidly-growing commodity market. The team is passionate about markets and market evolution. It is nimble in engaging market participants and developing industry sources, and collaborative as a team and across Commodity Insights (CI). The team has recently expanded, reflecting the growing importance of LNG to CI and the growth in the market itself. 

The Impact: These are developing markets for CI: we are looking for a dynamic individual who brings positive energy to the team and the role, to help enhance LNG benchmarks in the Atlantic and explain CI’s growing role in LNG markets. LNG is a fast-growing part of CI’s business and has a high degree of internal and external focus.

Responsibilities: 

Manage regional markets coverage 

The managing editor leads the market coverage in Atlantic LNG. This involves driving change and evolution of our assessment specifications and methodology, staying closely engaged with our key benchmark initiatives, leading critical projects and ensuring all editorial standards are closely followed. In addition, the managing editor will spur improvements in coverage. The managing editor will help develop sources and step in to cover where necessary. This is a hands-on market coverage role as well as a managerial opportunity. 

Develop Staff and Talent on the team 

The managing editor will coach and provide a sounding board for the Atlantic LNG team, encouraging high standards and enabling the team to operate to its capacity. The managing editor will foster a positive culture of execution, collaboration and productivity by providing regular constructive insights to the team. The managing editor will manage the recruitment of new staff. 

Write and lead high quality news and commentary 

The managing editor should aim to become a thought leader in the Atlantic LNG market, contributing to commentaries, leading writing initiatives within the team such as longer-form stories, blogs and strategic output. The managing editor should help coach the team to ensure market-related news angles are well-covered and ensure collaboration with all aspects of the CI’s content team. 

Engage with the industry: 

The managing editor is responsible for leading market engagement with market sources (existing and prospective) around the region. Excellent engagement helps ensure we are close to market developments, methodology development is strong, story writing is creative, and that channels of communication are established and open with market sources. The managing editor should find and nurture new market sources; maintain a good relationship with existing sources as well as ensure all source contacts are handled according to CI editorial standards and best practices. Engaging with the industry also may involve business travel. As the managing editor’s team is in several continents, travel to meet with team members would also be expected from time-to-time. 

What We’re Looking For: 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Experience of relevant market reporting, analysis or consultancy background in the European energy (LNG, oil, gas) industry 
  • Strong mathematical skills 
  • Strong writing skills 
  • Strong public speaking / presentational skills 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills 
  • Ability to perform well with tight deadlines 
  • Ability to react quickly to changing market conditions 
  • Ability to reason critically and quickly synthesize complex information under pressure 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Management experience 
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Russian 
  • Experience in speaking with external media
