This role is in the Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization, supporting the GMNS Operational Excellence team. GMNS manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally. The GMNS Operational Excellence supports GMNS business partners by delivering sound risk expertise and insights that help enable business priorities while fulfilling internal and external control and compliance expectations. 

Key Job Responsibilities: 

The Manager, Operational Excellence and Regulatory Change Management will be responsible for supporting critical regulatory and compliance programs for the business unit globally. The role will focus on project and program management, tactical execution of regulatory and policy projects, and cross-functional/global risk and compliance processes. The position will be focused primarily on supporting initiatives in India and across the APAC market.

Operational Excellence / Consulting:

  • Educate and guide key partners on the program, provide program oversight/governance and reporting.
  • Coordinate and drive alignment of cross-functional projects with other business units within and across the Enterprise.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency and streamline regulatory processes.

Project Management

  • Lead projects to address new and changing regulations from around the globe, including development of remediation plans and solutions to address regulatory and compliance risk.
  • Develop robust communication plans to ensure appropriate engagement, ongoing collaboration and appropriate awareness of progress with key stakeholders at all levels in the organization and across 1st and 2nd line teams.
  • Ensure appropriate project prioritization, monitoring and tracking of progress, and escalation when milestones and deliverables are at risk of being missed.

Program Governance

  • Ensure timely completion of relevant regulatory and compliance program deliverables.
  • Supporting remediation efforts related to relevant regulatory or compliance programs.
  • Coordinate deliverables across multiple risk and compliance programs to ensure long-term sustainability of compliance with regulation.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 5+ year's experience in operational risk, program management and/or process redesign.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-starter with strong project/program management experience driving complex, large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Problem solver and agile decision-maker with solid analytical skills.
  • Resilient team player with ability to influence opinions across all levels without having direct authority.
  • Robust understanding and experience of the merchant and/or network business, related regulatory landscape, and supporting technology infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop relationships with leaders, colleagues, and control and compliance teams. Previous network relationships with Audit, Operational Risk, Compliance, Technology, and/or Customer Service teams preferred.
  • Exposure to regulatory and policy compliance activities with a strong control mindset.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Working hours flexibility due to global nature of the role.
  • Project qualification or certification preferred (PMP, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • BA or BS (or equivalent) degree preferred.

Shift Timing - 5pm to 2am (Second Shift)
