Associate IFR

The Team: You will report to the Head of Infrastructure, Latin America, and be working closely with a number of highly experienced industry specialists, not only in Latin America but globally.

The Global Infrastructure Practice was established by S&P Global Ratings to expand our ratings franchise in an area of strong growth and to leverage our significant global infrastructure expertise across the full range of infrastructure and energy asset classes. Analytical team members reside in 16 locations globally and work on a diverse range of transactions applying different ratings criteria.

As an Associate, you will have direct analytical responsibility for a portfolio of credits, and be responsible for conducting credit and financial analysis, reviewing, researching and managing data/transaction documents, running credit models, analyzing cash flows, and preparing analytical documentation. You will be expected to provide analytical reasoning in committees and discussion within the team, and to act proactively toward resolution of issues, to investigate root causes for problems, solving and be knowledgeable on the appropriate criteria. You will develop and maintain a deep understanding of the industry trends and issues. As new asset classes evolve, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of different proposals.

English language skills must be excellent in order to communicate properly and precisely within the organization and publish research as discussed above.

In the position, you will be working as part of the Global Infrastructure Ratings group at S&P Global Ratings. With the guidance of a senior analyst, a qualified Associate typically maintains direct analytical responsibility for a portfolio of rated issuers within the transportation, energy, power, renewables and utilities asset classes.

Responsibilities:

The Associate undertakes rigorous analytical work and is proficient in conducting research and fundamental credit analysis, analyzing financial statements, working with financial models and forecasts, and writing analytical reports on rated different infrastructure asset classes. The successful candidate is able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, is customer-oriented, and demonstrates excellent presentation skills. Your responsibilities also include:

  • Ownership of a portfolio of credits
  • Arranging review meetings for all entities assigned in line with our surveillance standards
  • Understanding financial statements and preparing detailed forecasts
  • Summarizing findings and conclusions (including rating implications) at management meetings and discuss with management
  • Independently preparing and presenting analysis and recommendations to credit committees
  • Actively participating in committees
  • Undertaking research in support of S&P Global Ratings published commentaries
  • Communicating market players for rating rationale and criteria application
  • Actively managing relationships with issuers, intermediaries and investors
  • Understanding and implementing S&P’s policies and procedures

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree holder of Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related subject
  • Solid experience (3+ years) within a large commercial bank, investment bank, investing institution/asset manager, rating agency, or an audit company working in the field of financial analysis
  • Understanding of the power, utilities or infrastructure asset classes
  • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts
  • Proficiency with calculations and the ability to maintain accuracy and be detail oriented while complying with strict and tight deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines under time pressure
  • Experience in managing, interpreting, and synthesizing data for analytical purposes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player with excellent time management skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Excel skills (including formulas, vlookups, pivot tables, data, filters)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics and/or CFA
  • Strong proficiency with Excel & VBA, financial models and financial data
  • Strong PowerPoint and database application skills
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. C++, MATLAB, Python, R or VBA)
  • Prior experience with data analysis. Knowledge of SQL and experience in databases such as Oracle, Sybase, or Access would be helpful
  • Proficiency/familiarity in reading legal documentation.
