Your typical day – Our MDA engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal. Redstone is located in Huntsville, Alabama, otherwise known as “Rocket City.” Huntsville is the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with other missile defense experts – military, government civilians, and contractors from Axient and other companies. Our team of experts helps the Government manage planning, development, analysis and delivery of state-of-the art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems. MDA launches more large missile / rocket systems than almost any entity in the world. You will be part of the team that conducts successful intercepts of target missiles by one of our Missile Defense System (MDS) weapon systems. 

Responsibilities

What are your specific duties? Provide programmatic, technical, and analytical support to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Director of Flight Test Execution (DTFE). Individual will serve as a member of the primary mission execution support team providing direct support to Operational Test Directors at multiple deployable locations. This position requires a highly motivated basic engineer / analyst able to travel approximately 35% of the year supporting the Director of Flight Test. The candidate will report daily activities and products to Director, DTFE who has the overall responsibility for the development of operational and test activity checklists, test calendars and element integration, leading to the execution of MDA missions and supporting events. This position will provide programmatic, technical, and analytical reports to various Mission Test Directors throughout the planning and execution of complex missions. MDA Flight test experience is highly desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Operating situational awareness screens (via OPDASH tool) for leadership and Mission Execution Team viewing during events
  • Develop flight test / mission checklists that provide real time flight execution activities for various stakeholders
  • Support all phases of test planning, training and execution of Tier 1/2/3 test environments.
  • Perform programmatic analyst review for test activities pre- and post-events; Providing lessons learned inputs and support mission panel reviews
  • Plan mission asset activities through the Event Objective Worksheet (EOW) and detail in real time assets availability and support through various planning tools
  • Produce test procedures, (checklist) detailing time critical events supporting the Mission Countdown Events (CDE) and update mission documentation as calendar adjustments are scheduled
  • Support test integration and planning meetings, BMDS CONOPS Phase Reviews, data archival meetings, as directed

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • BA/BS in a field pertinent to the position being filled and 7 years of experience. Three years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the BA/BS degree requirement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Able to follow established procedures to solve test planning, integration, execution, and analysis problems
  • Able to think critically and solve problems
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently perform multiple tasks

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Flight Test Operations is highly desired
  • Experience with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) organization, MDA’s Missile Defense System
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel and senior leaders
