Make a Real Difference – Axient is looking for a motivated engineer/analyst to provide thier expertise within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Sensor Directorate, directly supporting SN’s Test Division (SNT). At Axient, we are at the forefront of new missile defense technologies and engaged with MDA’s rigorous operational and developmental testing. This exciting, rewarding work helps guarantee the security of the United States and our Allies. Join a professional team of highly qualified engineers, analysts, scientists and technicians supporting the research, development, testing and evaluation of the missile defense system whose purpose is to detect, track, engage and destroy adversary missiles. 

Your typical day – Our MDA engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal. Redstone is located in Huntsville, Alabama, otherwise known as “Rocket City.” Huntsville is the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with other missile defense experts – military, government civilians, and contractors from Axient and other companies. Our team of experts helps the Government manage planning, development, analysis and delivery of state-of-the art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems. 

Responsibilities

What are your specific duties? 

Test Engineers / Analysts provide technical support to MDA by planning, modeling, and analyzing flight and ground tests using certified tools and processes to predict system behaviors and performance; gathering and reducing test data; providing test baselines for each of the radar programs, supporting the Program Review processes; and assessing test performance. The above tasks are performed in a cooperative work environment with other entities such as: launch vehicle contractors, radar facilities, ground test facilities and flight test launch ranges.

Qualifications

What knowledge and skills will help you be a successful Engineer/Analyst?

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • BS in an engineering field
  • 7 years relevant experience
  • Ability to support Integrated Master Test Plan (IMTP) development by providing technical recommendations on flight test designs, target requirements/trajectories, and flight test requirement allocations
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple Radar product offices and weapon systems on emerging flight and ground test data needs, evaluating the best solution within testing constraints. 
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and Earth-Representative 3D Coordinate Systems (Earth-Centered-Earth-Fixed, East-North-Up, Azimuth-Elevation-Range), and how to convert between coordinates.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently perform multiple tasks

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Analysis or engineering experience with MDS radars
  • Knowledge of MDA Ground Test planning and execution
  • Knowledge of IMTP cost model and application of test rates
  • Knowledge of Program Review processes (MDAR, DPR, DBR)
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize STK or other analysis tools alongside MATLAB
