The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students with an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of computer and software applications. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/20/24-8/9/24
  • Hybrid-some work may be completed remotely, while other tasks will be in-office or offsite. Must live in the Columbus, OH area with in-office availability on Mondays
  • Salary is $23 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain meaningful and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.
  • Opportunity to explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.
  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Working with and recruiting volunteers for event activities.
  • Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any of the events listed above.
  • Helping with follow-up calls and getting in touch with prospects.
  • Assisting administrative staff with tasks such as printing, collating, thank you cards, etc.

Qualifications

  • Juniors, Seniors or Graduate students with an interest in non-profit organizations.
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work expertly with colleagues and professional volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment handling multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Meeting management and event management including set up, outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics, and meeting minutes.
  • Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol.
  • Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of Canva is a plus.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., Monday-Friday.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
