Job Title: Supervisor Accounting - CPUP Department of Finance

Department: Radiation Oncology

Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - 3400 Spruce St

Entity: CPUP

Hours: Full time regular

Summary: Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of the financial close process with high emphasis on review, analyses and distribution of internal and external financial information. This includes the coordination and review of accurate and timely reporting on Net patient Revenue, Bad Debt, Cash, AR Valuation, Statistics, Key Performance Indicators, and surveys. Review and prepare monthly account reconciliation balance sheets and detail analysis with supporting schedules. Also responsible for the oversight and participation in the development of HUP's Net Patient Revenue budget ($12.0B Gross, $2.0B Net). This requires interacting with Corporate Reimbursement Directors, Department Finance representatives, Hospital AVP, Controller and CFO to implement assumptions. In addition, Supervisor will oversee the accurate reporting requests for quarterly and annual external audit process: including scheduling and preparation of work papers, review and completion of various schedules and organization. Ensure that Accounting Policies are implemented and accurately applied and in accordance with GAAP. This also requires interacting with the VP of Patient Accounting, CFO, VP of Corporate Finance, and AVP of Financial Operations.

Supervisor is responsible for the recruitment, training and retention of talented, results oriented team. Supervisor has direct reports. This includes 1 Senior Analyst, 2 Senior Accountants, and .5 Accountant. Supervisor is expected to clearly define work expectations and ensure responsibilities are being met by each staff member. This is a hands-on Supervisor Position who will need to balance workload with review of reports/files for accuracy. In addition, ensure all deadlines are being met in a timely fashion. This also includes being easily accessible to staff members, continuously checking in with staff to provide guidance and support, establish and ensure effective and ongoing communication. This position will assign work that uses staff skills, talents, provides challenge, allows for creativity and offers leadership growth. Supervisor will conduct annual performance appraisals and address any performance issues immediately and directly. In addition, assist staff members in addressing challenges and skill deficits and encourage continuous growth to help staff realize full potential by identifying stretch objectives and creating learning plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and Oversight of all AR Related Analyses Coordination and preparation of variance explanations and changes in trends, resolution of exceptions and correct errors.
  • Oversight of the quarterly and annual external audit process which requires synthesizing various information, ensuring workflow and procedures are met and use of intuition and experience to oversee this process.
  • Develops process and procedures for improvement of existing systems.
  • Ability to review financial statements with Management.
  • Oversight of the monthly close and reporting of Bad Debt financial statements in accordance with UPHS and generally accepted accounting policies.
  • Interpret and understand the monthly close results and drivers compared to planned budget assumptions.
  • Evaluation and development of HUP’s Net Patient Revenue and Bad Debt budget.
  • Trains and develops direct reports; builds succession.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization. 

Education, Credentials, and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting and/or Finance (Required)
  • Master's Degree Business Administration or related field MBA/CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years Finance/Accounting experience (Required)
  • Minimum 1 years Supervisory experience (Required)
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
