Job Description

Director – NY Metro (NYM) Transit Rail Planning

AECOM’s NY Metro Transit Rail Planning team is looking for an individual with proven transit and passenger rail planning and project development expertise to join a collaborative team that balances our client-responsiveness, sound technical analysis, creativity, and digital technology to find the right passenger rail solutions for this and future generations.

The Director - NYM Transit Rail Planning will report to the Vice President, NYM Transit Rail Planning. Experience with transit and passenger rail planning and engineering as well as capital programming and the federal project development process is encouraged to support our portfolio of large infrastructure projects. Familiarity with development of passenger rail alignments and track, facilities, and systems design is a plus.

The successful candidate will be required to be in the office minimum three days a week and able to travel locally in the New York Metro area.

This position’s responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Project and client management, business development, and technical direction for the NYM Transit Rail Planning team.
  • Candidate will have a leadership role in business development strategy including industry and client outreach and leading responses to agency Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • The Director will be supported by and work with AECOM’s global transit/rail planning and engineering resources and our digital AECOM toolkit.
  • Develop and support growth and client-specific business development strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance.
  • Mentor and build capacity within transit rail planning staff.
  • Coordinate with AECOM’s multidisciplinary planning and engineering practices.
  • Manage AECOM and subconsultant resources.
  • Support new business development activities including industry events and client proposals.
  • Project management role including scope/schedule/budget adherence for project assignments.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Business, or other related field plus 12 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including two years of leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Business, or another related field is desirable.
  • 20+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, good time management skills, and an attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Professional planning or engineering license in NY, NJ, and/or CT- desirable but not required.

Offered rate of compensation (NYC locations only) will be based on individual education,

qualifications, experience and work location. The salary range for this position is $176,000 to $326,000.
