Hearst has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and detail-oriented communications professional to join its marketing communications team in New York City to shape, articulate and promote the corporation’s story as a diversified information and data leader. As Marketing Communications Associate Director, you will play a lead role in identifying unique approaches to marketing and engagement, crafting strategic corporate communications programs that resonate across Hearst’s channels and helping manage a team of talented communicators. You’ll work closely with Hearst’s business units and executives to create and edit informative, engaging content about Hearst’s business success, culture and impact for colleagues and the wider world. 

The Associate Director will possess a strong track record of producing and implementing successful integrated corporate communications, marketing campaigns and initiatives that build brands, engage audiences and drive results. Responsibilities include management of Hearst’s website, intranet, newsletters, executive communications, press releases and business updates. This position reports to the director of marketing communications and will be in-office at Hearst Tower three days a week. 

Responsibilities

  1. Provide oversight of content that amplifies Hearst values, goals and initiatives including newsletters (e.g., the Hearstlink newsletter, internal colleague CONNEX newsletter, etc.), press releases and more. Topics include achievements across the company, new endeavors, acquisitions, group successes, colleague spotlights, ESG topics and more.
  2. Develop, execute and measure the effectiveness of end-to-end corporate communications programs, bringing fresh ideas.
  3. In partnership with Hearst Technology Services, manage the strategy and direction of key technology products (e.g., Hearst.com, MyHEARST intranet, MyHEARST app).
  4. Oversee timely management of inbound communication requests from across the corporation, proofing and editing other’s work and maintaining quality control of messaging against style guidelines
  5. Develop strategies for speaking engagements, media relations, awards and other opportunities where the corporate message/narrative can best be delivered and optimized, producing communications plans and measuring success.
  6. Ideate and execute innovative strategies informed by tactics that grow readership and engagement including researching new technologies and auditing peers’ approaches.
  7. Develop strong stakeholder relationships and provide counsel and guidance in a direct and thoughtful manner.
  8. Work with the Director and VP of Corporate Marcomms with operational tasks including coordinating team professional development, codifying processes and procedures, managing analytics reports, updating lists, onboarding new platforms, personnel tasks, etc. 

Competencies

  1. Demonstrated success in executing multi-platform marketing and/or communications campaigns in a relevant industry
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or relevant equivalent 
  3. Ability to manage shifting priorities while staying organized and keeping the team motivated
  4. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
  5. Adaptability with technology products and platforms
  6. Knowledge of Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and major social media platforms; Knowledge of Sailthru, LifeRay and Airtable a plus
  7. 6-8 years of experience in communications/marketing/public relations (agency or in-house)
  8. Strong editor and storyteller who understands audiences, brand voice and AP style
  9. Outstanding communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple functions with executive presence and high emotional intelligence
  10. Proactive and able to work independently to meet deadlines and deliver high-caliber work

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $85,000–$105,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications and education.
