Purpose of Position

The Proposal Technical Writer is responsible for development of technical description documents to support new business and program change proposals.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop new technical content to describe proposed technical, management, and financial solutions to support proposal development.
  • Ability to interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and obtain technical information needed to write proposal documents
  • Understand and effectively develop proposal content that presents proposal solutions in a compliant, compelling and persuasive manner
  • Develop, write and edit material for proposals, RFIs, briefs, executive summaries, reports, presentations, contract deliverables and related technical and administrative publications
  • Maintain quality results by using templates, following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency and tone
  • Read and analyze the RFP and ensure compliance of written response documentation
  • Participate in kick-off meetings and proposal reviews
  • Ensure adherence to RFP specifications and timely delivery of proposal documentation
  • Win theme development
  • Incorporation of win themes and discriminators in proposal response
  • Create and maintain proposal supporting documentation database/re-use library
  • Create proposal and CDRL/SDRL templates.
  • Adhere to company processes and government regulations
  • Contribute to lessons learned and document and implement actions to improve overall process
  • Work with graphic artists to come up with representative graphics as needed
  • Incorporate graphics, figures, tables and text links in technical documents
  • Interfacing with proposal teams to collect and insert edited changes in a timely manner
  • Establishment and configuration management of proposal document control via an electronic filing system (i.e. SharePoint)
  • Monitors and maintains Configuration Management of proposals using SharePoint and/or a local network, providing quality assurance support as the proposal evolves through the internal processes
  • Ensuring availability of materials for proposal reviews
  • Interacts daily with functional departments (Programs, Engineering, Finance, Contracts, Purchasing, and Product Assurance) in support of all proposal development requirements
  • Research aviation training best practices and implement in proposal writing
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required or assigned by Manager

Minimum Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field or four years combination of education, experience, and training, in addition to what is listed below, is desirable.

Minimum Experience

  • Five years of experience in persuasive technical proposal writing. Two years of experience in proposal development in government contracts and/or aviation training is desirable.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and be attentive to details
  • Ability to communicate and work efficiently with remote employees
  • Ability to work constructively in a team environment
  • Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment and accuracy
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Advanced working knowledge and demonstrated work experience using Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Desktop publishing experience a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project, Visio Graphics and other graphics tools
