Summary: 

Seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Associate I who will be part of the Material Generation Team (MGT) within Seagen’s BioProcess Development group. The MGT This role primarily will be responsible for supporting the upstream cell culture operations in our large-scale lab (up to 250L) to generate materials needed for cross-functional developments as well as GLP toxicology studies (primarily, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs)). This role will be expected to independently execute cell culture process from vial thaw to end of production and to be cross trained to learn purification process and operation. This is an exciting opportunity to learn the entire mAb production process, to join a growing & dynamic team, and to significantly contribute to Seagen’s mission to develop transformative therapies targeting cancer to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. 

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Support protein material generation activities, including both mammalian cell culture and purification operations, from cell thaw to final formulated mAb 
  • Escalate equipment or process issues as necessary. Help in troubleshooting and derivation of appropriate corrective action and resolution 
  • Prepare buffer and media solutions to support material generation runs 
  • Perform equipment (e.g., bioreactor, purification skid, and chromatography column, etc.) maintenance 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all lab activities and work routinely with electronic data records and applications 
  • Generate technical reports, and present in internal meetings 

Required Qualifications: 

  • RAI - Bachelors in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or related majors with >1 years of relevant experience 
  • Hands-on cell culture experience including operating both bench-top glass vessel and large-scale single-use bioreactor systems 
  • Able to follow detailed lab operating procedures and safety guidelines 
  • Detail oriented, strong organization and time management skills 
  • Team player, motivated and willing to learn and grow 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience using lab software and/or electronic lab notebooks (ELN)
  • Be able to lift, move, and transfer 50 lbs 
  • Must be able to complete the physical portion of pilot scale operations (rolling 200kg barrels on wheels, moving buffer bags, installing harvest filters, etc.) 
  • Weekend and holiday work is required when needed 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Biomanufacturing experience 
  • Familiar with purification process and operations 
  • Proficient lab automation 
  • Prior experience in using ELN and data management

The hiring pay range for this position is $65,500 - $79,800 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
