ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The incumbent will be responsible for following up on the design and implementation of WFP’s resilience and livelihoods projects under the supervision of Basra Field Office management, and technical guidance and support from the Resilience and Livelihoods unit in the Country Office, and overall guidance from Head of Programme. 

JOB PURPOSE

The Programme Assistant will assist with follow up on programmatic tasks and duties related to the Resilience and Livelihoods activities in both urban and rural settings.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Perform specialized and/or standardized processes and activities within the specific technical area of work supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines. 
  2. Provide project follow up general support following established targets and WFP’s policies and procedures. 
  3. Within the specific area of responsibility, compile data and support analysis and preparation of reports on activity progress, stakeholders’ engagement and feedback… etc. in order to support operational decision-making. 
  4. Perform accurate, timely recording of data within the specific technical area of work (e.g. food security and vulnerability assessments) following corporate standards and guidelines. 
  5. Work and exchange information with partners counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities as per WFP regulations and instructions. 
  6. Support communication and activities with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions. 
  7. Act as a point of contact for resolution of general operational queries requesting assistance where necessary. 
  8. Arranging and attending follow up meetings with the partner on the project progress and expected challenges, raising the concerns for management decisions and providing advice on suitable solutions. 
  9. Any Other tasks as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completion of secondary school education. University degree in social and development studies, economics, agriculture development or other relevant field is desirable.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience in resilience and livelihoods related projects. 

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required. Professional knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish is an asset.

  • Has deepened technical knowledge and practical experience in resilience and livelihoods projects. 
  • Has worked extensively in tasks that involved relationship building and community engagement. 
  • Excellent knowledge of project implementation and follow-up with a comprehensive understanding of the different phases of the project life cycle.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to communicate effectively and efficiently with internal and external stakeholders and submit well-written reports and documents. 
  • Ability to proactively identify and recommend areas for improvement to the design and delivery of specialized services in relation to agricultural activities in the area of responsibility. 
  • Ability to build strong relationships across functions, as well as in public and private institutions with national all stakeholders, to focus on impact and results for the beneficiary, to respond positively to critical feedback, and a consensus-oriented approach to work. 
  • Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Position Title: Programme Assistant

Grade: SC5

Contract: Service Contract 

Multiple Duty Stations: Thi Qar, Iraq

Duration of contract: 6 months, with possibility of extension subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance

Salary: Minimum Annual Net Salary is USD 21,441.00

Medical Plan: International valid medical plan for the staff member, spouse, and dependent children 

Annual leave: 30 working days per annum
