Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process Design and Optimization: Designing and optimizing laser soldering processes for specific applications, taking into account the materials, components, and requirements of the semiconductor devices.
  • Feasibility Studies: Conducting feasibility studies to assess the suitability of laser soldering for different semiconductor manufacturing projects.
  • Process Characterization: Characterizing the laser soldering process by understanding its parameters, limitations, and capabilities.
  • Equipment Selection and Validation: Selecting appropriate laser soldering equipment and validating its performance to ensure consistent and reliable results.
  • Parameter Calibration: Establishing and calibrating the optimal process parameters for different soldering tasks, ensuring high precision and quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Implementing quality control measures to ensure the soldering process consistently meets required standards and specifications.
  • Process Documentation: Documenting all aspects of the laser soldering process, including procedures, parameters, and results for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: Identifying and resolving any issues or inefficiencies in the process and continuously working towards process improvement.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring that safety protocols are followed when working with lasers and high-temperature soldering, adhering to industry regulations and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, materials specialists, and production personnel, to integrate the soldering process into semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Training and Support: Providing training and support to production teams to ensure proper implementation and execution of the laser soldering process.
  • Process Scale-Up: Scaling up the process from the development phase to full-scale production while maintaining its efficiency and effectiveness

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a wide range of manufacturing processes, especially in semiconductors.

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of Semiconductor Technology: A strong understanding of semiconductor materials, devices, and manufacturing processes is essential.
  • Laser Technology Expertise: Proficiency in laser technology, including different types of lasers, their properties, and how to control and manipulate laser beams.
  • Soldering Techniques: Familiarity with various soldering techniques, including laser soldering, and the ability to work with different solder materials.
  • Experience with Semiconductor Equipment: Familiarity with semiconductor automated manufacturing equipment, especially those used in laser soldering processes.
  • Materials Science: Understanding the properties of different materials used in semiconductors and how they interact during the soldering process.
  • Computer Vision and Image Processing: Knowledge of computer vision techniques and image processing methods used to analyze and optimize alignment patterns.
  • Pattern Recognition: Understanding of pattern recognition methods to detect alignment patterns and deviations.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise during the soldering process and find effective solutions.
  • Statistical Analysis: Knowledge of statistical tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and variations in the process data, and establish DOE for process optimization.
  • Safety Protocols: Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols when working with lasers and high-temperature soldering processes.
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to understand processes and the interaction between the material, equipment, and the associated impact on product performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, optimize and qualify processes with data-driven decisions.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment. Ability to commit to aggressive timelines and to deliver on those commitments. Creative problem solver.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with team members, and external vendors.
  • Have acknowledged Minitab.
  • Experience generating technical specifications for custom equipment development.
  • Works well in a team environment with a willingness to share skills and information and mentor others.
  • Highly motivated and action-oriented as demonstrated by accomplishments.
  • Coachable; able to act on management inputs and constructive criticism.
