The University of Maryland, Baltimore Center for Information Systems is seeking an Azure Infrastructure Architect professional (Senior or Lead Specialist) to design, development, and implementation of solutions to applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns related to cloud computing and infrastructure for software applications. Perform systems management and integration functions. The Azure professional will be responsible applying their knowledge to access, manage, and develop cloud services and resources for the University.

Senior Specialist

  • Designs and manages an organization's cloud systems, applications, policies, and strategy.
  • Develops and modifies scalable architecture to support applications and infrastructure on IaaS and PaaS platforms.
  • Evaluates and identifies the best cloud solutions for the organization. Recommends cloud solution strategies.
  • Designs the controls and processes that utilize available audit tools.
  • Designs, configures, tests, and assists in the design, management, and implementation of an organization's cloud systems, applications, policies, strategies, and software solutions.
  • Assesses current campus business practices, analysis of software applications, and development of software solutions to implement best practices for campus business functions.
  • Designs and develops business processes and/or functional specifications for enhancements to application software based on organization-specific needs.
  • Serves as a resource and liaison between the technical team and end users or other members of the UMB community by monitoring critical business activities, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and escalating complex matters to the appropriate project resources. Provides functional support of the production application by working directly with campus users to address issues and recommend solutions.
  • Gathers business requirements from users and creates functional designs to enhance functionality of the application online pages, batch processes and/or reports.
  • Creates and execute test plans, evaluates results, and documents new features for system enhancements.
  • Sets up and maintains application security for UMB campus community. Assists in incorporating security management and privacy requirements into cloud hardware, software, and applications.
  • Maintains up-to-date and extensive knowledge of cloud products and technology.
  • Assists with training of Cloud Infrastructure Architect Specialists and other staff associated with cloud computing support services.

  • Leads setup and maintenance of application security for UMB campus community. Incorporates security management and privacy requirements into cloud hardware, software, and applications.
  • Maintains up-to-date and extensive knowledge of cloud products and technology.
  • May lead and train Cloud Infrastructure Architect Specialists and other staff associated with cloud computing support services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Senior Specialist requires Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering or a related field to application, such as business, finance, or human resources and four (4) years of general information technology experience with at least two (2) years of experience specializing in Azure Services. Certified Cloud Architect certification is preferred.

Lead Specialist requires Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering or a related field to application, such as business, finance, or human resources and six (6) years of general information technology experience with at least three (3) years of experience specializing in Azure Services. At least one (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers preferred. Certified Cloud Architect certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of current and emerging Azure IaaS & PaaS cloud technologies. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in Azure cloud computing and related fields.
  • Knowledge of topics such as high availability and business continuity, costing, deployment management, network design, data storage, security, scalability, elasticity, cloud migration, and hybrid architecture. Experience with container technologies such as PodMan, Kubernetes, or Docker.
  • Knowledgeable in multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking. Knowledgeable in backups, disaster recovery, and resiliency of sensitive and mission-critical data, databases, and infrastructure.
  • Knowledgeable in modern server & desktop operating system administration. Knowledge of modern scripting languages.
  • Understanding of deployment techniques and tools in a distributed environment.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud security best practices and policies, including demonstrated experience securing complex cloud infrastructure. Practical experience with role/group-based access control (RBAC) systems and governance mechanisms.
  • Knowledge in security mechanisms such as software scanning tools, operating system hardening, configuration auditing, certificates, and encryption preferred.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Identify and gather requirements, plan, lead, coordinate, and conduct projects or phases of projects.
  • Ability to accept general direction, triage ambiguous circumstances, and take action to resolve problems in which both the underlying issue and resolution are not readily apparent.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with members of the user community and IT personnel while exhibiting tact, patience, and diplomacy. Exhibit proficiency in clear and concise verbal and written communication.
  • Skilled in writing concise, logical, and easy-to-understand system documentation. Ability to record moderate to heavy levels of technical detail in an organized and reader-friendly fashion. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, prioritize, and schedule work.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks with varying priority levels and changing requirements.

Hiring Range: commensurate with education and experience.

Senior - $110,000-$122,000 

Lead - $121,000-$134,000
