Department 01555 - UIT INFRASTRUCTURE & OPS Job Summary

University Information Technology (UIT) has an opening for a Systems Administrator Sr (DevOps) position within the Software Platform Services team. This role entails designing and implementing secure, highly available, and scalable middle-tier and web hosting infrastructure solutions, including those within a Kubernetes environment.

The position will interface directly with development, production support, and QA teams and maintain a high level of visibility with entire team. This role will support and maintain the production environment along with the build and release processes which includes the supporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, installs, administers, and maintains highly available and scalable middletier and web hosting infrastructure solutions running Linux OS. (e.g. Kubernetes/container support)
  • Builds, releases and configures management of production systems using automated configuration mgmt. tools (e.g. Ansible*, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
  • Implements and/or improves continuous delivery of software
  • Provides operational and engineering support for continuous integration, rapid deployment, and testing of software for both infrastructure and product use.
  • Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems
  • Designs/develops, tests, and implements automated administrative tasks related to the middle-tier and web hosting infrastructure
  • Monitors capacity and analyzes information concerning processing time, response times, application/software, CPU loads, etc. for future growth and proactively informs management of potential areas of concerns, makes recommendations, and provides capacity planning/metric reports
  • Collaborates with service owners to configure applications that meet the business needs
  • Conduct technical evaluations on new products and features and provides recommendations and directions for implementation
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation on critical processes and standards

Minimum Qualifications

Require a bachelor’s degree in a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences

Experience with at least three of the following:

  • Linux system administration (RHEL*, Ubuntu*)
  • Automated configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible*, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
  • Application servers (WebLogic, Apache Tomcat*, Tuxedo, Glassfish*, JBoss, IIS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Jenkins, Atlassian products (Bitbucket/Stash, Wiki), GIT, Crontab• Shell scripting and/or a programming language.
  • Web Servers (Apache* with PHP, Nginx)
  • AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Load balancing (F5*, Netscaler)
  • Application servers (Tomcat/Payara)
  • Kubernetes and related tools (Openshift/Rancher/podman/Docker/Argo/Quay)
  • Knowledge and understanding of APIs, Microservices, and API authentication (Oauth, JWT…)• API Gateways (WSO2*, Kong, Zuul, Tyk)- indicates preferred
