Associate Marketing Director, Vintage Books (Open to Remote)

Marketing at Vintage Books, an imprint of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, seeks an Associate Marketing Director to join the team. Reporting to the Executive Marketing Director, the innovative and enthusiastic associate director will create and execute strategic marketing campaigns across cutting-edge contemporary fiction with the Vintage Trade Paperback Originals, as well as time-honored classics across the Vintage backlist, while also managing the Vintage social media channels. This is an excellent opportunity to work with teams throughout Penguin Random House—and campaign for the consistently selling titles that consumers most want to read at Vintage Books.

The experienced associate director will be highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and enjoys reading broadly and often. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide multicultural readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team.

The Role:

  • Create and lead buzzworthy title marketing campaigns based on market data and consumer trends to drive awareness, engagement, and sales of upcoming publications and backlist 
  • Manage title marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, analytics, and budgets to help maximize ROI 
  • Manage Vintage’s social media accounts on Facebook (including multiple brand name author pages) and Instagram, as well as the Knopf Doubleday TikTok, including content creation and channel optimization, with help from Marketing Assistant 
  • Develop social media strategies for titles designed to maximize engagement and connect with a book’s audience 
  • Liaise with Publicity, Publishing, Editorial, Sales, Creative Services, Strategic Insights, Academic Marketing, Library Marketing, Audio Marketing, and Corporate Marketing and their larger teams to implement cohesive campaigns and promotions 
  • Communicate marketing updates to sales, authors, agents, and other stakeholders as needed 
  • Send regular reports to publishing teams of campaign details, goals, and learned insights 
  • Maintain awareness of the adult book market and publishing industry and suggest new and innovative ways to market titles to consumer, influencers, and booksellers 

The Essentials: 

  • 7+ years working in book marketing 
  • 5+ years of experience managing social media channels and influencer campaigns 
  • Proven ability to create strong, integrated campaigns including paid media and social media strategies 
  • Strong creative eye and photography skills 
  • Ability to set and meet goals under an established budget 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and other key stakeholders 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and thrive in a busy working environment 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across the division and within the company 
  • Results-oriented, motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently 

Extra Credit:

  • Experience championing backlist titles 
  • Photoshop and/or Canva skills 
  • Video editing/TikTok fluency 

The salary for this role is $80,000 - $90,000. Candidates with 7-8 years of campaign management experience and 5-7 years of experience managing social media strategy and implementation will be eligible for a salary of $80,000 - $85,000, while those with more than 9+ years of campaign and 7+ years of social experience will be eligible for a salary of $86,000 - $90,000. Please note all candidates must have experience with both campaign management AND social media strategy and implementation. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
