The Chief Digital Officer for Automotive and IoT will guide VMware’s Automotive and IoT Global Accounts through the journey to operate as a digital business.  This is a senior role designed to shape VMware’s go-to-market strategy within a critical business segment.  The role will have three main areas of focus:  customer facing, market leadership, and interaction with different stakeholders inside VMware, especially product teams and the Office of the CTO.
One of the key objectives is to drive VMware’s relevance on the Customer’s digital agenda through meetings with Customer Executives, presentations at industry events, and thought leadership in the market-place.   This role will also establish industry-based expertise for VMware within VMware’s product and solution teams, while driving a business outcomes based mind-set and talk track.

Responsibilities

  • Assist account teams to develop content and relevance, to enable CXO and Senior Lines of Business conversations
  • Develop industry specific sales content for internal VMware use
  • Develop and support, jointly with the Globals sales and pre-sales leaderships, strategic initiatives and programs
  • Work with VMware marketing teams to present an industry point of view, as well as VMware’s value proposition to the industry
  • Create content that outlines industry trends, challenges, and opportunities for VMware
  • Utilize experience to document use cases and scenarios for use by VMware product teams
  • Guide and collaborate with VMware Product Management, Engineering and Office of the CTO teams on future state needs as well as on innovative ideas to monetise opportunities for VMware in the industry
  • Actively engage on a quarterly basis, with the global accounts sales teams by providing thought leadership and working on account strategy and planning, project and program management, enablement, etc.  This includes:
    • Work closely with VMware’s Global Account Pre-Sales organization to support demand generation activities as well as sharing of industry whitepapers and customer success stories
    • Drive customer references
    • Develop joint case studies with customers
  • Launch and run a Customer Advisory Board program for VMware Automotive and IoT customers
  • Launch and run an Internal Advisory Board program with VMware internal stakeholders to elevate and enable the wider VMware organization on industry trends, challenges, opportunities and use cases
  • Engage with strategic SI/SOs, partners and 3rd party vendors, in this space to explore joint ventures and go-to-market opportunities for our customers

Experience Required

  • 10 - 15 years of experience in Autos (driving a digital agenda for organizations, via working in IT or a line of business, or from working in one of the Big 5 consulting companies) 
  • Strong consultative mind-set and ability to uncover business challenges
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong leadership and problem solving abilities.
  • Credible customer-facing and executive presence
  • Excellent relationship building skills and business acumen
  • Ability to lead, orchestrate, guide, mentor and motivate, particularly an internationally diverse team
  • A holistic and detailed understanding of IT and how technology can accelerate business growth with an understanding of security threats and breaches
  • Seen as Industry thought leader with in-depth understanding of the trends, opportunities and impact of technology to the financial services industry, in a “digital world”.
  • Ability to create assets such as white papers, presentations, and Blogs
  • Ability to run seminars, workshops and forums with different stakeholders, including executive level
  • Demonstrable experience of public speaking, especially at industry events to large audiences; ideally press trained and experienced in seeing and discussing “the big picture”
  • Thrives under pressure and able to work in fast pace and dynamic environment
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter with a charismatic personality
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Education

  • MBA preferred
  • BA/BS degree required

Travel

  • Estimated travel of between 50% to 80% locally and internationally, depending on needs of customers and VMware teams
