Senior Technical & Data Analyst or Principal Technical & Data Analyst

Job Function: Technical and Data Analytics

Manages validation, analysis, and delivery of data used to support the Customer Service Division.

Career Level: P3 Career Professional

Requires in-depth knowledge and experience. Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services. Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Works independently, receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Validation: Reviews and analyzes data used for billing and retail products and services and determines whether it reflects true operational characteristics. Investigates root cause for complex input/output failures and data errors. Reviews multiple data sets from different sources. Leads cross-functional efforts to review and resolve data issues. Builds processes in response to business needs.
  • Consultation: Serves as a subject matter expert on customer data to metermen, billing, and others. Participates in or leads projects to improve overall data quality. Analyzes patterns to identify data discrepancies. Proactively anticipates issues from system upgrades and proposes solutions. Provides training to newer employees.
  • Testing and Data: Leads or coordinates testing new technologies with other departments. Determines when new meter data is accurate. Investigates root-cause issues and collaboratively develops resolution.
  • Error Reports: Reviews data from multiple sources for quality control purposes. Identifies anomalies and determines whether data is corrupt, in error or a normal variation. Researches issues and develops innovative ways to resolve.
  • Other Duties: Updates and maintains customer information in databases. Develops and maintains departmental operating procedures and makes adjustments as needed. Identifies and implements process improvements. Runs various reports and groups data to enable finance reporting.

Education/Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • Typically, five years in utility operations (e.g., billing), IT, technical operational support or other related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with coding, configuration, and software development.
  • Understanding of the business acumen as it relates to billing and revenue.
  • Prior experience leading projects.

Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. May lead functional teams or projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Validation: Oversees review and analysis of data used for billing and retail products and services and determines whether it reflects true operational characteristics. Investigates root cause for highly complex input/output failures and meter communication errors. Leads cross-functional efforts to review and resolve data communication issues. May assign and direct data validation work. Proactively anticipates needs and builds and implements processes.
  • Consultation: Serves as companywide subject matter expert on meter customer data. Participates in or leads projects to improve overall meter data quality. Analyzes patterns to identify discrepancies. Proactively anticipates issues from system upgrades and proposes solutions. Assigns work to other employees and provides coaching, feedback, and training.

$85,500.00 - $169,875.00
