To get there, we need an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Consumer Entertainment engineering team, in San Francisco, and help us craft the hardware that will enable the next generation of entertainment technologies.

You’ll be joining a team that develops innovative hardware and software solutions to enable incredible Dolby audio experiences across a wide range of consumer electronics devices. You will be responsible for supporting hardware innovation with embedded software. In collaboration with acoustic, mechanical, electrical, and other software engineers, you will develop and demonstrate exciting new hardware technologies and work with our consumer electronics partners to integrate them into new product offerings.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will use your software skills to help develop and innovate on hardware related software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test audio systems with embedded software and processing such as TV, soundbars, smart speakers etc...
  • Interface and program various audio hardware components – smart amps, DSPs, micro-processors, FPGA
  • Support audio hardware architecture combining various digital input formats (Dolby bitstream, TDM, I2S) processing in micro-processors and DSPs, and outputting to digital and analog amplifiers.
  • Work within a Scrum team of developers and engineers
  • Participate in early project scoping including collaboration with research, product management, and development teams, review of proposed technologies, development of test strategies, and contribution of proposals for testability.
  • Partner to other Dolby teams, contributing your expertise to company-wide technical strategy and knowledge base.
  • Stay abreast of industry software development tools and best practices.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent, MS preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in real time audio processing and DSP algorithms integration
  • Demonstrable proficiency in C/C++, ideally for multithreaded audio systems a
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python
  • Experience with multimedia API, pipeline framework such as GStreamer
  • Experience working with hardware board, bring-up, processor debugging, etc...
  • Knowledge of multimedia hardware architecture, components
  • Knowledge of common audio system peripherals, codecs, interfaces, standards
  • Familiar with design patterns, best programming practices, version control, CI/CD framework
  • Familiar with standard bug reporting tools such as Jira
  • Familiar with audio system tuning process
  • Understanding of spatial audio rendering, capture
  • Understanding of electroacoustic principles, measurement techniques
  • Ability to achieve results, meet deadlines, and adjust to quickly changing priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English, including the ability to produce clear and concise technical software documentation.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solver
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)

The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $145,300 - $177,500, which can vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
