Job purpose:

To lead and manage the finance function within the organisation and support the business to maintain financial sustainability, support growth and return on investment objectives. And to do so in accordance with the principles, applicable legislation and Nordex policies. The role also encompasses full accountability for all financial reporting, managing the budgeting and strategic planning cycle. internal controls and compliance.

The Head of Finance is also responsible for ongoing development and monitoring of financial control systems, supporting supply chain improvements and performance over a multi-year horizon. 

This role is a key driver towards fiscal responsibility within Nordex Energy South Africa and requires an individual with sound technical, business and financial reporting skills as well as knowledge of financial systems, financial processes and internal control mechanisms.

Key Performance Areas 

Management of finance and supply chain management

  • Develop the Finance management systems and policies and optimize controls and processes.
  • Participate and contribute in the development of strategic and annual performance plans for Nordex Energy South Africa
  • Formulate and ensure successful implementation of key strategic business plans within the Business Unit
  • Manage budgeting processes of the organisation
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance, Accounting and Supply Chain Management functions
  • Ensure that business decisions are supported by solid financial criteria to ensure organisational financial sustainability
  • Improve productivity across the Business Unit and align business activities with strategic and operational plans
  • Provide support and recommendations on financial implications of the decisions to be made by the Managing Director.
  • Monitor cash balances and forecasts and invest funds
  • Arrange for debt and equity financing
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Implementation of recommendations from the stakeholders
  • Perform any and all reasonable tasks given by Managing Director
  • Deputize the Managing Director in his or her absence or when requested.

Reporting 

  • Oversee the reporting of financial results and information required
  • Prepare Compliant annual financial statements and other mandatory financial management reports

Financial Management

  • Ensure compliance with statutory and budgetary reporting requirements
  • Prepare the organisational budget and ensure tracking and monitoring thereof
  • Ensure financial viability thereby delivering a robust and accurate financial planning and a reporting system that incorporates a balanced budget, within the area of responsibility
  • Authorise and drive initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improve productivity and reduce operating costs within the Nordex Energy South Africa

Governance 

  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of internal control systems and organisational policies
  • Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, FiCA, Tax Act, etc, The Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA), and other relevant legislation
  • Ensure sound risk management and compliance aimed at mitigating risk and loss
  • Monitor all finance and supply chain management related issues that may impact on Nordex Energy South Africa governance requirements.
  • Develop a delegations framework within the area of responsibility
  • Ensure sound governance by providing guidance to supervisors on the issues of finance, compliance and internal controls within Nordex Energy South Africa
  • Fraud prevention and loss control system

Innovation, Excellence and Transformation

  • Ensure implementation of processes that capture and exploit innovative opportunities
  • Set, standardise acceptable practices and guidelines
  • Ensure transformation initiatives are budgeted and financed to improve the BEE standing of Nordex Energy South Africa

People Management and Leadership

  • Ensure a positive and constructive culture
  • Set performance targets for the Business Unit and regularly monitor achievement thereof (performance management). Provide feedback on performance of team
  • Ensure capacity of team by providing relevant training. Develop Individual Development Programmes (IDP) /Individual Learning Programmes (ILP) for subordinates to promote succession and talent retention. Monitor the implementation Individual Development Programmes and Individual Learning Programmes
  • Coach and/or mentor team, where required
  • Ensure management, review and specify an efficient and effective utilization of resources

Career / Job Experience:

  • Experience in financial and management accounting, current accounting practices and methods
  • Experience in reporting systems within a medium to large company
  • Experience in working in an ERP (e.g. SAP or similar) an advantage
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and MS Teams
  • Well-developed financial and management accounting skills, including IFRS

Education and Qualifications:

  • Minimum Chartered Accountant (CA) (SA) qualification or equivalent NQF level qualification
  • Minimum 7 – 10 years post-qualifying (or post articles) experience in a commercial and/or corporate environment (outside of audit) with ideally 3 - 5 years’ experience at senior management level.
  • Membership with SAICA
