Requirements

Georgetown University and the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) are expanding career and lifelong learning programs for alumni. Building on a strong tradition of alumni engagement, this work aims to enhance and amplify Georgetown’s alumni programs through lifelong learning initiatives that foster individual growth and deepen connections between alumni and their alma mater.

The Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning is an important new member of the Alumni Relations team and will work closely with colleagues across the Office of Advancement, the GUAA Board of Governors, and Georgetown faculty to build events that:

a) showcase Georgetown faculty, initiatives, research, and institutes;

b) highlight campaign priorities and strategic initiatives of the Called to Be campaign; and

c) engage more alumni more meaningfully.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Director of Career & Lifelong Learning who reports to the Managing Director of Alumni Engagement and serves as a member of the Office of Advancement.

This position will work closely with faculty and alumni exemplar speakers. This position will liaise and interact with the GUAA, Alumni Career Services, and Alumni Relations staff members. Additionally, this position will interact with Development Officers to engage potential prospects and/or inform potential prospects.

Requirements and Qualifications

B.A. Required

Practical Experience (years needed and type required): 

  • 1-3 years specific experience in higher education, nonprofit organization, or working with professional associations;
  • Passion for innovative and entrepreneurial thinking;
  • Experience with idea implementation;
  • Experience in managing volunteers;
  • Experience with effective direct marketing, e-marketing, database development, co-marketing partnerships, sponsorship development, and other current marketing systems also preferred;
  • Proven success in developing and managing events and programs required.

Other Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to adapt communications style for various audiences. 
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. 
  • Enthusiastic “people person” who communicates easily with diverse professionals and personalities.
  • Event planning skills are a necessity. Experience in higher education a plus.
  • The highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and emotional intelligence are essential for success.
  • Experience in fields of entrepreneurship, entertainment & media, technology, or financial services is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel with some frequency to select cities (mostly U.S.).
  • Willingness to work occasionally on nights/weekends.
  • Familiarity and interest in the unique culture and traditions of Georgetown University.
  • Willingness to research potential members using existing tools of the University and any external technology (e.g. Professional Associations and Social Media).
