KBR is looking for Head Consultant to be based in Kuwait

KBR Consulting is seeking a Head Consultant to work as part of the KBR Consulting team. Successful candidates will be key members of the team providing consulting services and contributing to business development activities across the full range of upstream, downstream, chemical and petrochemical industry clients in Kuwait.

Reporting to the EMEA management, the Head Consultant will report to the Director of KBR Consulting, Middle East. The candidate will have primary responsibility for the delivery of studies from pre-feasibility through to Pre-Feed.

We are offering a three-tiered role in KBR Consulting that provides best-practice project delivery, customer-management and troubleshooting across the project portfolio to ensure on-time, in-scope and in-budget project deliveries. A second element provides revenue-enhancement by leveraging of off existing projects and clients to generate incremental revenue while also undertaking business development to generate revenue from new clients. These are supported by a third strategic, planning and coordination element that provides the continuous monitoring, optimisation and revenue maximisation of activities in KBR Consulting for Kuwait.

Recognising their project management responsibilities, the candidate should have excellent organizational skills and be good at communicating and guiding others. He or she may be required to works projects, thereby necessitating excellent ability to multi-task, work without supervision, exercise good judgment and communicate with colleagues in the wider KBR organisation.

Additionally, the candidate shall support the group’s overall sales effort through proposal/tender preparation, contract negotiation, and other client interfacing activities.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Senior professional with strong personal drive and credibility with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • A high energy individual with a desire to make a difference and offer suggestions for improvement & recommendations;
  • May serve as a proposal manager on large pursuits, gaining executive approvals where required, through to final contractual negotiations;
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing project-related priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work within required deadlines;
  • Overall responsibility for the successful execution and conclusion of projects executed for KBR Consulting in Kuwait;
  • Participation in cross fertilisation of work between KBR departments and developing a OneKBR approach to execute projects;
  • Developing and maintaining customer relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction at project level and resolving any issues;
  • Ensure regional financial targets are met;
  • Liaise with the Consulting Director to ensure the projects are adequately resourced;
  • Review project obligations and ensuring management of change including variation orders;
  • Feedback and review of project managers to ensure they are adequately supported and developing their skills;
  • Development and roll out of consistent project tracking and reporting tools for the advisory business;
  • Development of project close out procedures including knowledge sharing, lessons learned and project case study preparation for marketing materials;
  • Host global monthly project updates;
  • Manages risks to avoid delays or reputational damage;
  • Oversee project managers, to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget, to a high standard;
  • Leads the regional project management team and is responsible for the successful completion of the project;
  • Train, develop and mentor the next generation of Project Managers; and
  • Abides by the KBR Code of Business Conduct and business ethics.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate depth of experience and knowledge in a number of the following services areas:

  • Oil & Gas, Refining and/or Petrochemical market knowledge;
  • Industry competitiveness/awareness;
  • Feasibility and configuration studies;
  • Process design;
  • Process operations and improvements;
  • Project execution strategies;
  • Direct sales experience; and
  • Client relationships in Kuwait.

Essential skills:

  • Oil & Gas, Refining and/or Petrochemical operations experience and/or being on management roles within these industries would be advantageous;
  • Must be able to travel on short notice; and
  • Have existing client relationships in their respective areas of expertise.

The candidate must demonstrate competence in the following:

  • Able to work within a ‘sell-do’ model;
  • Strong self-starter and motivated to succeed;
  • Practical front-end consulting – including scoping, selling and delivery;
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to produce concise reports and presentations appropriate for all levels;
  • Confidence to work at all levels of a client organisation (Board to Technician);
  • Desire to expand role and be adaptable to client’s needs;
  • Contribute to preparation of proposals, execution plans and budgets;
  • Identify new opportunities and leads; and
  • Supports a continuous improvement culture and identifies gaps, develops work processes, tools and methodologies to drive productivity and growth.

Other Functions

  • 15+ years of industry experience with a specific technical and/or commercial focus in the Oil & Gas, Refining and/or chemicals industries;
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Positive and flexible attitude;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, good cultural awareness;
  • Diplomatic in meeting and working with people (internally and externally);
  • Flexible and willing to work extra hours as necessary to accommodate occasional work load peaks;
  • Relevant higher degree is a plus (Masters, PhD, MBA);
  • Work experience with an industry company, licensor or technical consultancy is a major plus;
  • Fluent Arabic and English, additional languages are a plus
