AT CR we know there’s more to testing cars than measuring how the rubber meets the road, after all we’ve been testing and reporting on the subject for over 70-years We’re on the cutting edge of auto technology-buying and testing over 50+ new cars a year--including EV’s, plug-in hybrids and of course, gas cars-- driving each car 2,000 break-in miles, even before we drive the car on our test track.
As an Automotive Engineer on the Auto Testing Team you’ll report to the Manager of auto testing & insights. You’ll be based at our 327-acre Auto Test Center in Colchester, Connecticut, and test vehicles alongside our Auto Testers, as well as, working collectively with colleagues from the Data Intelligence, Journalism and Communications teams to capture and record the data that contributes to how we test and evaluate all things auto.
We’re looking for someone with a passion for cars (you’ll be testing them daily) and a critical eye for detail (you’ll be involved in reviewing content and updating our proprietary database of specs, prices and features) plus knowledge and insight into the automotive development process, product lifecycle and industry as a whole (including emerging technologies like electric and plug-in vehicles). Take a test drive here to learn more about how we drive non-stop and dig into the data to help consumers make informed choices.
This is an on-site position located in Colchester, Connecticut. It is not eligible for sponsorship.
How You'll Make an Impact:
CR members have relied on us to provide valuable, unbiased insights into the safety, performance and efficiency of each vehicle we test. You’ll be an integral part of this process.
In this position you will drive test cars daily and provide feedback and insights regarding various aspects of the vehicles. This includes setting up test equipment, and involvement in vehicle dynamics testing. As we purchase every vehicle we test from a dealership, you’ll also be involved in that process, interacting with dealers and organizing vehicle pick-up.
You will also assist the Junior Automotive Engineer in making sure CR’s database is up to date and accurate--noting year over year model changes via manufacturer’s specs, CR generated date and test results. You’ll also help update content to be published including reviewing/fact-checking other written content and videos for accuracy under deadlines and flagging current details and developments in the industry.
