Job Summary

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA). The successful candidate may teach on multiple campuses as the schedule might require but their primary teaching responsibility will be on the Dahlonega campus and through our online graduate program.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching 12 hours per semester (4/4 load; undergraduate and/or graduate courses possible) including core classes for the department. Courses will include American Government, Legal Research and Moot Court, Administrative Law, American Constitutional Law, and others depending on departmental needs. 
  • Service and scholarly activities (such as advising students, serving on faculty committees, presenting at academic conferences, publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals, etc.) are expected. Summer teaching opportunities may be possible. 
  • This position will be based on the Dahlonega campus but will have some teaching duties on the Cumming campus as dictated by Departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in political science, public administration or public policy, or related field.

Must have a successful teaching background

Preference will be given to those candidates who complement existing department strengths and:

1) Have extensive and proven experience in effectively teaching survey and upper-division classes in political science with a focus on legal-oriented courses.

2) Exhibit proven proficiency in online instruction and online course development.

3) Have an extensive background in law. If the candidate has a J.D., that is a positive.

4) Have proven experience with the academic advisement of undergraduates with a focus on students who have declared a pre-law concentration.

5) Have an active research agenda.

6) Have the ability to found and coach a law-related academic competition team (e.g., mock trial, moot court, etc.) or to develop other dynamic program enhancements.
