Title Postdoctoral Research Fellowship – Global Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology School Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Department/Area Global Health and Population (GHP) Position Description

The Sudfeld Research Group within the Nutrition and Global Health Program in the Department of Global Health and Population, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with an interest in global health, epidemiology, and maternal and child health. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to ongoing maternal and child health clinical trials conducted by the research group including an NIH-funded clinical trial of zinc for young Tanzanian infants with sepsis and two clinical trials funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that are being conducted in Tanzania focused on feeding options for preterm infants and iron dosages in multiple micronutrient supplements for pregnant women. The postdoctoral fellow will also have access to data from completed trials and studies to lead analyses and publications based on their research interests. This position provides the opportunity to develop and extend skills in field research, advanced epidemiologic methods, and author manuscripts for publication. The postdoctoral fellow will also serve as part of the mentorship team for graduate students and fellows linked to the Nutrition and Global Health Program. All activities will be conducted in close collaboration with Dr. Sudfeld and Investigators in the US and Tanzania. 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Development, monitoring, and support for standard operating procedures for ongoing clinical trials
  • Provide Data-driven feedback for trial activities including quality control and assurance.
  • Travel to Tanzania to work collaboratively with research partners
  • Provide mentorship for graduate students and fellows
  • Develop research questions and lead data analyses and publications from completed clinical trials and studies 
  • Contribute to funder reports, manuscripts, and grant development
  • Other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD/doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, nutrition, or related public health field. Candidates should also have the following:

1) Strong quantitative, analytical, and writing skills

2) Global health research experience

3) Expert knowledge of SAS, Stata, or R 

4) Demonstrated ability to work independently, under supervision, as well as part of a team are all necessary for this position. 

Additional Qualifications

Two or more years of research experience in global health and with at least 6 months of experience in clinical trial research is preferred. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, commitment to collaborative partnership with US and Tanzania staff, strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and meticulous and consistent follow-through is required.
