Role Description 

As a member of the Brand team, our primary goal is to connect with audiences to foster a positive perception for ByHeart and create brand salience over time. 

The PR & Communications Senior Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communication initiatives that effectively communicate our brand story and product offerings, enhance our brand reputation, increase visibility of ByHeart amongst various stakeholders, including consumers, employees, investors, and the media. As a strategic leader within the Brand Marketing team, you will have ownership over PR & Media Relations (consumer, trade and business media), Talent / Influencer Relations, Social Impact, and Corporate Comms. You’ll be a strong cross-functional partner to the team, shepherding initiatives from idea to execution with enthusiasm, and representing what’s best for ByHeart in all forums. 

What you will accomplish:

  • Communications Strategy: Build and drive both short and long range communications strategies and program executions for brand, product, social impact, founder and consumer communications. 
  • Messaging Development: Responsible for distilling and conveying ByHeart’s positioning and the narratives about the company, its people, and its products both internally and externally in compelling, accurate, and disruptive ways. 
  • Writing & Editing: Editing, fact checking and drafting releases, talking points, briefing docs and penning spokesperson responses on behalf of the brand and key representatives.
  • Crisis Comms Management: recommend strategies for how to best navigate crisis comms both internally and externally; and lead the execution of agreed upon strategies in partnership with executive leadership. 
  • Social Impact Comms: Work in partnership with the Social Impact Lead to develop and implement comms strategies that spotlight and expand our social impact work through OpenHearted and other initiatives.
  • Internal Corporate Comms: Partner with the People team and lead internal organization communication and development – ensure key narratives and messages are well socialized throughout the company. 
  • Brand Planning: Aid in the development of Annual Brand Plans and budgets that thoughtfully address our brand goals and growth forecasts by leveraging earned media channels. Responsible for bringing the VP of Brand’s vision to life across media and talent relations. Recommend earned strategies to drive growth and reach KPIs.
  • Press Coverage & Media Relations: Deliver positive media coverage (and social media engagement) to promote commercial and brand initiatives, founder press, business & trade press, product features, regional news stories and more. 
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain a network of press relationships (B2B and B2C). Maintain an effective internal database of contacts that streamlines the planning and pitching process.
  • PR Narratives: Develop narratives and tailor comms to business, trade and consumer (national and regional) outlets 
  • Press Materials: Lead the creation of compelling communication materials, including press releases, media seeding kits, corporate announcements, executive speeches, and employee communications.
  • Awards and Conferences: Get ByHeart onto “top” lists and awards for founders, company, culture that align to ByHeart’s values in order to build ByHeart’s position in the market. 
  • Events, Activations & Launches: ownership of the planning and execution of corporate events and experiences for press, media, talent, influencers and similar. Includes guest experience, event layout/decor, agency and vendor management, creative asset briefing, logistics, budgeting, and post event ROI reporting.
  • Talent, Influencer & Brand Integrations: Cultivate strategic partnerships through organic seeding/gifting and paid endorsements with celebrities, influencers, and brand integrations. These partnerships must resonate with our consumer, be brand relevant and elevate the brand messaging through earned media channels.
  • Agency Management: Oversee the PR agency and act as the primary go between for sourcing internal narratives, media requests, fact checking, creative and approvals 
  • Evaluation & Reporting: Define measurable goals and establish systems for monitoring and measuring marketing effectiveness PR; document and communicate results and learnings to ensure they are applied to future work.

Qualifications

  • An experienced publicist / communications expert with a proven track record leading and driving earned media
  • 8-10+ years of comms experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role
  • Experience with high growth, founder-led start-ups
  • Experience with single-product brands, preferably in CPG 
  • Experience with social impact comms
  • Proficiency with a wide variety of comms strategies, tactics and tools/ PR analytics platforms
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in marketing.
  • Experience with product comms and launching new products or services.
  • Experience developing and managing marketing budgets.

The minimum annual salary for this position is $180,000 and the maximum is $220,000. The salary range for performing this role outside of New York City will differ. Additionally, you will be eligible for a discretionary performance based annual cash bonus and to participate in our company’s equity program, plus our robust medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefits.
