Project Background:

The Advancing Capacity for the Environment (ACE) program will support USAID’s work in the areas of climate change, environment, energy, and infrastructure. The ACE program will primarily focus on providing support and services to DAI’s client - the Center for Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure (EEI) within the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation (DDI). The program objective is to enhance USAID’s effectiveness, leading to positive and sustainable development outcomes globally in the above sectors through activities under four key tasks areas: communications, training, knowledge management, and facilitation/organizational development. The program will provide these comprehensive services and support across EEI as a collective Center, but also dedicated services and support to each of its three Branches—Climate & Cross-Sectoral Strategy, Natural Environment, and Built Environment—including services and support to each of the separate Divisions within each Branch.

Position Description:

The consultant will collaborate with the ACE Team and USAID counterparts to maintain and enhance intranet websites and external facing platforms, and support content development, management, and strategy. This may include web coding on relevant sections of usaid.gov, designing new pages based on client interactions and requests, and providing QA/QC of coding developed by other members of the team. The consultant will work alongside ACE’s Sr. Web Design/UX Specialist as part of a team providing web support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support EEI web properties throughout the USAID.gov domain.
  • Align web delivered content with client strategies and user-centered design principles.
  • Provide design, development, formatting, editing, coding, content management, and related tasks according to best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with USAID technical, style, brand, and accessibility requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of web development and design experience;
  • Experience collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to prepare web content;
  • Experience contributing to web content and in transferring written and graphic content into accessible, user-friendly outputs for a range of audiences;
  • Experience with web analytics and producing web analytics reports;
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript;
  • A keen eye for visual design with specific experience in photo editing software such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop;
  • Experience with MS Word and Google Docs;
  • Familiarly with Section 508 compliance strongly preferred;
  • Detail-oriented with copy-editing skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving, fluid team setting with multiple stakeholders;
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; flexibility; a problem-solving orientation;
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and reading skills in English;
  • USAID experience preferred;
  • Must either already have a USAID badge or be able obtain a USAID badge easily (in order to work behind USAID firewall).
